Big update for HAMSTR — Reticulum mesh networking is now live on the master branch.
What this means is now NOSTR notes & Lightning zaps(cashu coming soon) can now travel over LoRa radio using the Reticulum Network Stack.
No internet. No cell towers. No relays you don't control. Just encrypted mesh packets hopping between nodes to reach a HAMSTR server. Full briding is possibly as well over many reticulum nodes and endpoints.
Why Reticulum over LoRa changes things:
Traditional packet radio (AX.25) requires licensed ham operators on both ends and is limited by line-of-sight at VHF/UHF. VARA HF reaches further but needs expensive interfaces and Windows.
LoRa operates on unlicensed ISM bands (915MHz in the US). Anyone can run a node. RNode hardware is cheap — under $30 for a LilyGO or RAK device. Reticulum handles routing, encryption, and authentication automatically. No callsigns required. No license required to participate.
A HAMSTR server running Reticulum becomes a mesh-connected NOSTR gateway. Clients within LoRa range — potentially miles — can post notes, fetch feeds, and send Lightning zaps with zero internet infrastructure.
This is the censorship-resistant communication stack we've been building toward. Off-grid, encrypted, decentralized, and now within reach.
Running VARA HF and AX.25 Packet Radio backends continue to work alongside it and is preferred for existing radio usage and superior range.

Total random use case and not global related, but bitchat came in very handy with my family on a cruise recently when no cell signal was available. Limited range of course, but there was 2 others on the cruise that I kept seeing and chatting with as well, and good relay peeps for my family. Pretty cool.

Taxes were very much a thing.
There was tariffs and duties, excise taxes on some AG products, early developments had some sales and building taxes, there was multiple pre 1913 attempts at income taxes as well. The first came in 1861 to pay for the war.

Money can be seen as property, however it is the transfer of said money which is taxed. Income, cap gains, dividend yield(equity transfered to you.)
Outside of inflation, in the US, there is never a federal tax for holding money nor property.

There are actually a ton of older ham setups in the region, including iran.
Iran fully allows ham radio. Always has. Getting equipment due to sanctions is harder of course, but many 1950s-1980s radios exist all around Iran.
North Korea, not so much. But I regularly have heard stations from Iran over the past say 10 years or so.

Nah. Anywhere outside of the major cities would likely be fine. HF is very hard to jam unless you find the actual station, which they certainly aren't going to spend a lot time on.
Using a hex beam or yagi pointed towards Europe could easily be achieved.

The odds of Iran being able to reach SW USA via hf radio is very low currently, but not impossible with good antenna.

HAMSTR ANNOUNCEMENT - Reticulum Network is now working in basic form in #HAMSTR!
Send and receive notes, zaps have some issues. Multi Hops on RN is currently not working well, ie: lora in the field to lora at home, to TCP connected hamstr server. something with my transport settings or packets isn't right.
This is still a client and server setup, 2 computers and rnodes required. Until the network builds out like meshtastic or something, this will always be the case.
Zaps also having issues, need some reformatting.
But in the next week I hope to merge it and get some testing. No ham license needed, just a couple of cheap lora esp32 radios and good to go!
So far testing has worked great up to about 7 miles line of sight on my 3dbi antenna setup.
Be aware, my docs suck and no video tutorials yet, ill try and add recommended reticulum settings and how to to the git readme file as well for reticulum only. no callsigns, no license, just open ISM bands, encryption allowed as well so no issue with zaps(when i fix the issues)
NOTE: For now, this would be for people who have already used reticulum in some way I think. Setup your own rnode, or other server/client. Once docs are complete, it should be for anyone with a couple of small RN compatible lora radios.

Of course they are central planning. They are trying to price out goods X in favor of goods Y. That's quite literally centralized planning.
China isn't dumping anything. That's not how it works. I need a product, I find suppliers of a product for the best value/price ratio. If that's in the US, great Canada, fantastic. China, fine.
The government collected 200B in new tariffs taxes last year. That's 200 billion in new taxes on the importers of goods. That's 200B that was sucked from the pockets of the people.
Much of this was paid by the consumers of the imports, not all, but much.
This isn't a media line, it's a fact. I bought electronics from Alibaba, I paid more this year than last for my esp32 devices. Devices which are not made here, fyi.
The importers are also employing people, and many like Amazon resellers are citizens and Mom and pop businesses as well.
I'm fine with just tariffs, if we have no income tax. But that's not a thing.
But they also don't help the country in any way. There is zero evidence tariffs help a country.
Trade deficits are meaningless, but I do think it's important to showcase the fact that the trade deficit didn't even shrink last year despite gold exports being through the roof.
Trumps tantrums have hurt Americans, trade, and helped China grow their exports. How again is that a good thing?
The ONLY way to fix manufacturing(if that's even a goal, which I don't think it should be) is to stop deficit spending, inflating the dollar, and forcing the world to use dollars.
