Maybe the thing might be mutiny, can't be censored through app stores. It can have integration with cashew mints that pop up whack a mole style. Easier to spin up a mint than an entire custodial solution. That might be the bandaid until a real more non-custodial solution comes.

Yet another whitepaper drops (which doesn't require a change to Bitcoin.) This one, Durabit uses Bitcoin backed E-Cash to incentivize filesharing through torrents. This has been a CLASSIC altcoin project remember BTT (BitTorrent token on Tron)? I would love to see sats become the native currency of filesharing.
Someone from the Monero community commented on one of callebtc's posts, something like "let me know when you have significant DNM use with E-Cash." He has a point. But maybe filesharing could be the first real use case for Bitcoin E-Cash.

Note, this stuff is so dumb but affects mempools.
For about a week, the amount of brc-20s went down greatly. Brc-20s, unlike the jpegs don't stretch blocks. When this happened, it allowed the stretching of the jpegs to go unencumbered raising the avg block size. (Until, they came back.) Brcs also caused the massive fee spike. The date of the spike is circled. See how the avg block size shrank in the middle of blocks being 90% inscriptions? That's brc20s.

Why Nostr exists: New "Elon making his garden wall higher" just dropped. Another move to make it less pleasant to click off platform. You know, nvm, that's only for when I send, you can make LNURLS go to nodes though, they need the 100% uptime. As for noncustodial receiving of zaps without a node, still waiting on async payments (or something like greenlight (a virtual node on the cloud, obviously not the best direction, but a better direction than WoS, since people hold the keys.)

Yeah, I'm happy to see it. Honestly, the only other community I wouldn't mind having around. But Lightning has some limitations that are (very) slowly being solved. Async payments is a (very) big one (being able to recieve payments when not online) Nostr took the path of not waiting for the right way to do something, and just using any way to do it. (Probably the right move. Its been great having zaps at all.) LNURLS can't be entirely trustless, but you can make it go to something you hold the Bitcoin keys to, your node, or a Phoenix Wallet or something like that.

Luke Palmer, at Monerotopia23, a little after the 13 minute mark starts talking about Nostr and how to implement Monero for zaps. I have heard of other ecosystems implementations using Nostr (mostly Monero and Minds) But I'm sure we will see other ecosystems end up here. I don't really mind, I think the biggest community here will be Bitcoin. The only thing that can ruin that is a well-funded a16z coin. Any other community that joins nostr will just be making nostr (Bitcoin's platform) bigger, even if that particular community isn't a Bitcoiners community.
Note: At one point he refers to a "Lightning improvement proposal" I guess the phrase would be either a NIP or a BOLT. Probably a NIP, that doesn't sound like a problem with the Lightning network in general.

If you haven't taken a look at Spiderchains, a proof of stake Bitcoin sidechain, yet, might be something here. Would be a gamechanger if it worked out. Could be Bitcoin's first permissionless 2way peg. And unlike a certain controversial topic, (Drivechains) no fork necessary. It is an EVM chain, which I can see how maybe that was an easy funding pitch. "Let's bring to Bitcoin the Ethereum stuff that Bitcoin can't do!" But, I am more hopeful of this security model working in the future than an EVM (Ethereum-y) sidechain becoming popular and hope to see different spiderchains pop up.
It has certain obstacles. Stakers get paid with ONLY transaction fees. (No base reward fee seigniorage.) But you need users to pay the stakers. And you can't have users without having stakers first. So, chicken or the egg problem. Will transaction fees be enough to keep stakers happy? Rootstock only pays miners with transaction fees, but it's mergemined with Bitcoin, an activity they do anyway. So staking will have to compete against rates on other chains. Apparently they will have an initial fund that will start staking and will slowly phase out of this.

As far as things that stand out... Communities (like Amethyst, but some different ones from eachother and a few the same) Also "Lists". In your feed, you can click on the user's profile picture, get a dropdown menu, and add the user to a list, without having to go to their profile. Nice flow!

It made me think that whatever psychological phenomenon is occurring is the same one that is happening in politics. Definitely here in the US, where I live, we take turns every 4-8 years switching masters of our clubs that impose their preferences on half the country against their wishes. If given an opportunity where both groups could be happy (Light mode AND Dark mode both existing) the President will do their best to make sure that only one does. And why wouldn't they? They just had to deal with 4 years of ONLY LIGHT MODE under the last president. Anyway, last thing I will say is Elon preferring Darkmode over Lightmode so he makes the choice for millions of users... that's the kind of personality that couldn't handle not having control over the direction of Bitcoin.

Man. He's the best at forcing the EXACTLY OPPOSITE things most people want and nobody can do anything about it.
This is why being able to hop clients in Nostr is so important. (If things more important than horrible logos come up.)
Hell, most Nostr clients are open-source, you can keep your client if you like it, and just change the one thing you don't like about it.

How whale-y is BTC? According to
app.intotheblock.com/coin/BTC the "Concentration by Large Holders" BTC is at 11% while, Ethereum is at 42% (likely due to the Foundation & Consensys.) BCH is at 37% (probably due to the fact that to be a major holder of it, you are likely a believer in it, which not everyone is), ADA 32% (similar reasons to Ethereum), Polygon 85% (👀Oof!), AVAX 78% (Also oof.) Then I came to two last coins that. I'm going to be honest. I thought *might* have been almost as distributed as Bitcoin. Litecoin and Doge. Litecoin was 50% and Doge was 65%! Don't know why/how these last two are so bad.
Also, the numbers show (despite Saylor's best efforts) that distribution is only increasing over time. (Although numerous news outlets such as Time and CBS has published articles critiquing Bitcoin's coin centralization as largely held by few (HELLO! Have you heard of fiat?!) Here's a great piece by a analytics company Glassnode proving the increasing distribution over time.

Something I haven't heard anyone mention (in relation to Instagram's Threads app) is that Nostr has a Mastodon-Nostr Bridge (Mostr). When Threads does add Fediverse interoperability, it can likely be interoperable with Nostr, too and Threads users can be zapped.

Hey there, I found on Stacker News a piece of writing regarding Instagram's Threads. It draws parallels to how Google (all but) killed an instant message standard (called XMPP) by becoming interoperable with it, and suggests that this is perhaps what Zuckerberg is doing.
Step 1. Become interoperable with open network (but OVERWHELMINGLY most users use Big Tech version.)
Step 2. Make it suck for people using non-Big Tech version. Slowly fall out of interoperability.
Step 3. Cut off interoperability.
Anyway, it's a good read/theory. Thinking adversarially has paid off for us as Bitcoiners, so it's something to watch out for over here at Nostr too. Being wayyyy smaller than the Fediverse, we are even more vulnerable to this.
It is also a "Twitter killer" the fact that they released it before having ANY ActivityPub interoperability shows they would rather take the opportunity to kick Twitter when they are down (ratelimiting) than actually be decentralized. However, it has a stricter moderation policy than Twitter.

It was a pillar of the SOV narrative, which pre-lightning was at odds with the circular economy mindset, since pre-lightning, the circular economy was so associated with big blockers doing coffee transactions. What's kinda rough though, is I still hear Jimmy say this kind of stuff. The situation has changed, because the tech has changed. Lightning is here, and circular economy doesn't mean changing block size. Also, things are starting to get weird, we are approaching the "then they fight you stage." Eventually the on/off ramps will become fewer, more limited, more surveilled. Time to start building the parallel economies and drop the "HODL-ONLY" mindset.

Have you noticed Twitter is displaying YouTube links fully again? For a while they weren't, and only the shortened link showed. (My assumption was this was to discourage any leaving of the platform as you don't know for sure where the link really would take you.) I wonder why they changed their mind.

Yeah, I get it. But, if they really do go back to "no crypto" again, crypto folk will get another phone. How many people is that? I wouldn't think too many at all. But if it was enough people to get them to change their mind in 2014, it's certainly more than enough people to stop them from doing it now.

People did this in 2014. Back then Apple slowly removed EVERY SINGLE BITCOIN WALLET on their App Store. Only after enough protests did they bring them back. They might be starting their old shenanigans again.

Kinda near the place where you put your bio, there should be a place where you can put your Lightning Address. It should either say "LNURL" or "Lightning Address" or something like that or maybe just a Lightning bolt sign. Just copy the thing that looks like an email address ending in wallet if Satoshi, and you can receive zaps! Let me know next time you are back if you need more help.

After downloading the app, press "Receive" in the bottom left, and then the "Copy" button to copy your LNURL to your clipboard. (Yours will be different than mine)
Your LNURL will look kinda like an email address. One that ends in @ walletofsatoshi

Ok, zaps, are mini-tips of Bitcoin over Lightning. They can be as little as 1 Satoshi. 1 Satoshi is 1/100,000,000 of a Bitcoin or currently $0.00031 (USD)
All clients have the ability to zap profiles. All you need is an LNURL. (Short for Lightning Network URL.) Easiest way to get one is download Wallet of Satoshi.

Yeah. There's definitely some work on that. There's a chess game that runs on nostr, a Bitcoin coinjoin protocol that uses it, a chatbot thing, Twitter clones were just the first usecase, but this is really cool stuff. One of the coolest things is the fact that your account (your npub) you can take with you to anywhere in the network. So it's like the non-evil open source version of "log in with Google or Facebook." I think this part will be huge.
