The path of least resistance will be chosen by the masses up to and until the culture and education changes. With the rise of homeschooling, and bitcoin ethos (freedom, personal responsibility etc) things can trend in the right direction.
Also it's prob just easier to feel better about yourself if your neighbour has given up as well. When you see others fight, it's sometimes an indictment on you and your allowance of whatever creeping evils are present in your sphere.

Maybe there’s a cage stage. Some people can be smug for sure.
Some just want to fit in with the newfound culture, with sometimes some cultish aspects (not reflective of the whole though)
But in my experience, if the purchase coincides with the red pilling of their understanding of government, finance and inflation the result is a very strong emotional response. And that I can’t really fault.
During COVID literal years of people savings were inflated away by the printer, learning of that does something to you.
