I wish people wouldn't randomly take pictures and upload them to FB. I always have to be the bad guy at family parties and remind the boomers not to pus my kids' faces online. Or people at the park, getting pictures of their kids playing with my kids and having to be told not to upload that. Unfortunately, most stores have security cameras with footage that I imagine is stored in the cloud. So it's a losing battle. There is also Ring cameras.

The pipe got fixed, the garage door got fixed but it broke again in a different way some months later (but we can open and close it manually). I have holes in my drywall (made to find the leak) and water damage.

You are doing spend and replace, I imagine, which is good. But that's not always an option. And given the chance between spending (and not replacing) Bitcoin and spending fiat, most people would choose to spend fiat.
I had a really big, unplanned expense recently. I couldn't afford it so I needed to exchange my Bitcoin for fiat to pay for the expense or get a loan. At the time, I couldn't get a fiat loan, so using my Bitcoin as collateral to get fiat worked for me. I don't recommend it to everyone. I lost Bitcoin in an exchange that went down, so I really push "not your keys, not your cheese". Having my Bitcoin under Strike's custody was stressing, but it did help me get out of a pickle. I now have my collateral back and I have a fiat loan. Because I'd much rather spend debasing fiat than hard Bitcoin (which is what Gresham's law is all about).

Oh, I don't necessarily care about NGU. It's nice, but I don't need Trump, Lummis, Milei or whomever to pump my bags. I believe in Bitcoin as a decentralized store of value and permissionless money transmission protocol, so Bitcoin is The One True Coin for me. I lived in hyperinflation and I lived with laws that forbade using foregin currencies to fight against the outcome of local currency debasing. I know institutional adoption of Bitcoin is inevitable, but I don't prefer it.

I told my wife I was going to start buying btc. She was like "okay". She doesn't want to be involved in the finances and that's fine with me. I was DCAing like a maniac. One day I mentioned we were all in on btc. She wasn't mad, but she was surprised. She thought I meant I was going to buy once. For a second she felt as if I had told her I gambled everything on red at the casino.
When I explained how much we had in unrealized gains she relaxed. Then I told her I'm not selling for fiat. That this is generational wealth and that we'll use it as currency when needed. She's still not super happy with the "I'm not selling" part. She doesn't know what bitcoin really is and she is not interested in learning.

Have you ever been formally tested? I only took online tests (a few times) and I score in the upper 130s, lower 140s. Not genius level, but high enough that dealing with an average or below average person is exhausting. Luckily, I don't usually need to interact with people with low iq.

I love Nostr. I never really used any other social network, though, so maybe I have a blindspot. I do believe it's an amazing protocol and while I do follow several bitcoiners, I also follow many more people who are not posting about bitcoin on a daily basis. Nostr is hard work, finding your people may be tough.

I had somewhat similar conversations on two different instances with a friend. Specifically, about how AI had crossed a certain threshold where it could "fool" or compete with humans.
The first time was probably 8 years ago, when deepfakes became somewhat common. I mentioned this could be used for political reasons. My friend told me deepfakes where obvious and nobody would believe it. I brought up that people were sharing the video of Obama kicking a door open like it was real and that wasn't even deepfake, just decent editing. The second time was discussing self driving cars. My friend said self driving cars were not good enough and that humans had nuance that AI at the time didn't have. I said that self driving cars didn't need to be perfect, just on par or slightly better than the average moron on the road.
To your point, I don't think the level of discourse will improve. AI will just get indistinguishable from human slop and the average human will happily live in a reality that's a mixture of Wall-E and Idiocracy.

YouTube is one of the handful Google products I use andI would miss. I run LineageOS which is AOSP (opensource Android, but ultimately owned by Google). I use Maps for directions (openstreetmap cannot find addresses where I live). And I have an old Google Voice number and GMail that I still keep around for legacy reasons but I don't actively use. Maps and YouTube I use without accounts. I use GMaps WV for Maps (sandboxed app) and BravePipe for YouTube.
I tried using Odysee and Peertube as a YouTube replacement, but a lot is missing.

"The first" is actually Episode 4. Episodes 4, 5 and 6 are good. 1, 2 and 3 were not liked when they came out, but then 7, 8 and 9 came out and people realized that 1, 2 and 3 were actually not that bad and things could get way worse.
