"See me!" is a project with pictures of sandboxes. More precisely, boxes with lids, usually made of plastic, with sand in them that are used to prevent slipping.
The project is about seeing what we would rather not see. Or try to avoid seeing.
Sandboxes are a necessary evil but few people think they are beautiful. They are almost everywhere. We tend to stop seeing such things.
The same applies to some people. Often those who are a bit on the fringes of society. Like the homeless and the mentally ill.
I have tried to take the pictures of sandboxes in a respectful way. Partly because I believe that all people should be met with respect.
For a while I tried to photograph the homeless but it felt difficult to get images that captured their situation in a sufficiently respectful way. The choice fell on sandboxes. For me, they represent the homeless in some way. They are out in all weathers. They often look a little worn.
The origin of the project was that my now deceased mother began to get worse. To deal with the anxiety I felt, I started photographing sandboxes. Photography became a kind of therapy for me.
I think that the reason the project turned out the way it did is because my mother suffered from a psychological illness and that during a period of her life she devoted herself to helping the homeless.

A liminal study on the human condition, where fracture gives rise to a shape that we can barely recognize. Over the past few months, my subconscious feelings led me to take random photos that represented my difficulties growing up as a Japanese American dealing with pectus excavatum, a birth defect in which one's chest caves inward. I often found myself circling back to the dualism of the underlying beauty that lies within despair. More specifically, the subject matter that I often go back to includes worn objects and composed shadow abstractions. Can something greater be formed out of despair? Does this "something" extend beyond humanity and perhaps life itself? I want my images to serve as a visual language for the "unseen" struggle, pushing the viewer to find beauty in structural vulnerability.

Started eight years ago, this photographic movement created with mobile phones has no other ambition than to exist as an instinctive and free flow.
I have little interest in the individual image as each picture leads me to the next one and redraws the boundaries and meaning of the whole.
It's a breath in my daily life as much as a way to archive and counter certain anxieties.
An aesthetic intimate notebook where my loved ones, time, and all the suns that have crossed my path mingle. There has never been any other rule than that of expression, of feeling, there will never be another.
My mobile phones are brushes, black boxes. They allow me to discreetly freeze and twist the moment and put it in my pocket.

"When I began this project, I thought I'd be documenting the seasonal changes that seem to take place in the Yukon over long, drawn-out periods of endless winter and brilliant summer. Ultimately, I found that the landscape I had chosen to document changed, not only seasonally, but by the hour.
I chose to focus on the view from the lake where I lived at the time. There, I realized that the transformations I’d always assumed took place slowly, actually happened in measurable increments I could miss, if I looked away for too long. Ice formed and melted, altering the water from midnight to noon. In a matter of minutes, sudden winds whipped the lake’s glassy, reflective surface into frothing waves. If the sky opened up, or dark storm clouds rolled in to create a change of light, I made my way down the winding path (often running) from my house to the lake, camera in hand.
Over the 20 months I spent on this project, I became more and more aware of the ever-changing light in the North.
I noticed how even subtle changes elicited an entirely different mood from the landscape. I became obsessed with visiting the lake and seeing what it had to show me".

A good photograph is one that reveals what had always been there, but usually went unnoticed. It can be a passing glance between two people, otherworldly light in a familiar space, a picnic bench blending into the landscape in a way that feels unintentionally intentional. I’m drawn to the things that don’t quite fit, the moments that feel out of place, because they make you pause and look again.
I like when a photograph makes the viewer wonder why it was taken in the first place, but after some consideration, the answer feels obvious. That tiny delay, the click of the shutter, is where the image lives.
Photography sits somewhere between documenting the world and trusting your intuition in an instant. There’s always a bit of tension in what a picture shows and what it leaves out. The frame holds a version of truth, but never the full one, and that’s part of what makes the medium *nearly* honest.

"Perhaps it is because of the ethos of worshipping of Buddhism in the southern Fujian area where I live, or it may be due to a certain destiny, when I go out to photograph, I seem to have been able to meet Buddhas all the time in the past few years. Especially when I organize my own photos, I can more and more feel that the Buddha is everywhere in various forms and shows itself at random.
The year before last, Xiamen held the International Buddhist Supplies Exhibition. The square of the Convention Centre was magically lined with statues of Buddha waiting to be loaded and unloaded. I stood in the strong wind and waited until midnight, just to see how the solemn Buddha was hung in mid-air on a swing. In this situation, the Buddha is no longer as sacred as I imagined, it seems that it is just a commodity waiting to be moved at any time. There is a passage in Han Bingzhe’s book: “After entering a modern society, despite getting rid of the ruling institutions, religious discipline does not lead to freedom. Freedom and restraint were born almost at the same time. In a faulty social situation where people are prone to anomie behaviours, a new value system has happened to be formed -- people belong only to themselves, and people are racing to seek self-realization.”
We seem to run, dance, and play in the wilderness, but this “self-realization” is now dominated by capital and big data. Neoliberalism is disguised as poetry and distant places, but at the same time it reduces human’s body to a machine as the nomads of contemporary capital. We are still suffering from the impermanent..."

I'm a visual artist from Erode, India. I've been away from home for over a decade. This series of images is a daily practice of mine and a work in progress to get used to the place that is my home. My fascination with architecture and graphic design led me to stumble upon these pictorial themes all across the town. The unique yet prevailing patterns of vivid colours have become pieces of a puzzle that'll eventually give me a bigger picture.

"I took this series of pictures last summer at Grand Marché in Lomé. A commercial and social center of Togo capital city, this chaotic and frenetic market twists and turns in the narrow alleys that connect the suburbs of the city to the shores of the Guinea Gulf.
A modern Babylon, violent in its frenzy, where men, women and kids barge into the crowd to sell and buy any kind of goods; colorful plastic containers and objects dazzle under the light, while they advance lifeless, balancing on the women’s head crossing the market.
Frozen by the camera, these combinations of human and man-made become abstract shapes that, transcending the anthropological interpretation of this place, turn into archetypes of fascination and matter".
