1. A method of generating binary packages from the results of these builds.
2. A method of deploying these packages to other brew instances (which, importantly, maintains the connection to the source package)
3. A brew package server that can do this automatically.
Building these huge projects on laptops is tiresome.

Thread of things I hate about the LG 6K monitor (32U990A). Updated as I encounter them.
There is no metal on this thing, it is all painted plastic. Gross. Correction, the base of the stand is made of metal. It does not match the painted plastic stand.
The stand is too high. I’ve set my desk as low as possible and my eye level still makes looking at the top of the display a strain.
Controls are via a little joystick on the back of the monitor. It feels very flimsy and cheap and will probably break soon. It is also very awkward to use.
macOS software audio controls do not work with this monitor. The volume output is at a fixed volume (digital “line” level), and the monitor expects to adjust the volume using the above flimsy joystick. This is very bad.
The speakers are terrible. I expected this.

vscode uses homebrew’s python, not the system python. Homebrew’s python can’t be managed with pip, it needs to download packages via ‘brew’. Brew doesn’t contain the package I need that is installed on my system python.
The whole python versioning world is a disaster and everyone involved should feel bad.

iOS already handles this quite well. Its process lifetime model informs applications they need to exit and preserve state. They don’t know or care if they were evicted or if the system restarted.
Traditional Mac desktop apps don’t do as well. Much of this has to do with either window placement or the notion of explicit file saving. Apple tried to change the latter but nobody adopted their method (because it was weird in a desktop context). For window placement, that’s on the Finder, but it’s a difficult problem due to dynamic monitor configuration.

Assertion: desktop apps should preserve state across reboot where possible.
Having to wipe out multiple desktops containing intermediate work state to do a security update and reboot is no longer a rare occurrence, and the OS should handle it better. macOS restore windows is a good start but needs deeper integration.

Agreed with the sentiment, but the call of staying true to the founders doesn’t resonate within Apple. Apple engineers tend to think about doing what’s right for the user. In my years at Apple (during and after Jobs) I’ve never heard anyone mention “founders” as a concept to draw inspiration from. WWSJD is rarely a thing. Woz is never mentioned and has no significance in the company culture.

If I understand Meta’s chip strategy correctly, it’s “invest in everything all at once”. They’re buying GPUs from nᴠɪᴅɪᴀ and AMD, TPUs from Google, NV Grace and Vera CPUs along with the standard x86 vendors, whatever this thing is with Arm, several other things I forgot, and they’re making their own chips as well (they just announced an accelerated release cadence for these). Must be a lot of fun for the people maintaining their AI stack.

Seems like a client that is in a logged out state and not waiting on a token (login failed) should never accept a token that’s handed to it. Otherwise what does it mean to be logged out if the server and log you in again whenever it wants?

Messaging on all of my devices was having issues. Seems to have corrected itself, presumably due to backend fixes. Troublingly, my iPad, which was logged out of iMessage, is now logged in without me having done anything. That a device can be told that it’s logged in without a human entering a password is concerning.

I’ve been on #Mastodon for over three years and I still think the strict chronological timeline sucks. It’s terrible for interaction since you only see the latest things with no comments. I want to see popular things by people I follow, even if they were posted while I was sleeping or picked up steam later. I also want some degree of randomness to introduce new things in my timeline. Yes, I realize this opens the door to evil algorithms. The algorithm can be under my control, it doesn’t have to come from the X/Meta rage optimization teams.
If you like a chronological timeline, great. Enjoy it. It’s not the only way.

We are much better off having OS vendors provide age verification than having every app do it. They would all outsource it to Meta or someone similar. We would end up having to maintain accounts with the verifier, giving them all the data, and depending on them to use our apps.

I know I have the latest update for that OS. The question is whether Apple is issuing security updates to Sequoia or whether it is done doing that and my only option is to go to Tahoe.
For my phone they did exactly the latter, which forced me to iOS 26. There was no indication that this was the case. If I didn’t investigate I would be running an unpatched OS right now

iOS 26.3.1 had completely broken the keyboard next word suggestion feature on my phone. I rebooted my phone and a little while later it started working again. I assume it previously failed to download some ML model and never recovered, and the reboot forced it to retry.

I’m not sure I understand the question. These are A19’s produced for phones and tablets that have manufacturing defects. If I were making these parts into a display, I would assume that the entire P-core complex is defective and run entirely out of some set of E-cores. That would allow using an SoC with one or more defective P-cores, or a core complex that’s broken rendering all of them disabled.

I was at a company where this happened long before vibe coding. It was a disaster. Team was working on a Win32/MFC app. CEO knocked out a prototype in Pascal over a couple of weeks. It barely worked but was way ahead of the MFC app. The team was assigned to make the Pascal app work better, but it was a maintenance nightmare and fixing the bugs was impossible due to the bad architecture. The MFC app never shipped.

iPad does not have enough storage to update. Photos taking up 14GB of local storage despite being set to optimize storage, has no way to flush its cache so the device can update.
Obvious solution: disable iCloud Photos. “Do you want to remove all these photos from your iPad?” Yes. Photos storage starts *increasing*, balloons up to 18GB.
Now fucking what?

Technically possible (*caveats) but doesn’t make sense financially. The process for logic is just too expensive to be used for DRAM and would fall far short of the amount of memory these machines need before they hit the max die size.
