Use a client on mobile data that does not automatically discover and connect to multiple relays, but only to those you explicitly configure and only use one relay like nostr wine that aggregates from multiple relays, not free tho. Then use a different client for wifi where you don't have restrictions, but block mobile data access to avoid surprises. I moved on and use nostr mainly on desktop. Rarely on a smartphone and then only on wifi.

Apple is getting worse. Not that I have much left there, but I have to use a shared reminders list and we'll, it's not working. Items don't get updated, items are missing, items are duplicated, sharing does not work in lockdown mode (besides per airdrop), there is no board view in MacOS, ... Basic stuff, I don't get it.

If memory doesn't fail, my last mobile with removable battery was the first Motorola RAZR in aluminum. Before that I had only Nokia and they survived everything and I never lost one, bc the where big and couldn't just slide out of the pocket. Also there was the matrix model 🤣

I simply followed the install instructions of the projects I settled on. There where no big roadblocks. I mean, nothing a short search wouldn't answer. Probably a bit of luck, and nothing exotic on my set up.

Actually, I only miss the parental controls, find my and battery life. Besides that, I'm now annoyed everytime I have to go back to iOS or Mac and use it for anything. The first couple of weeks can be a bit frustrating, as habits have to adapt and there is a lot to learn. I had already experience with Linux, that made it probably easier, but my kids also managed to make the transition and they only miss Minecraft bedrock or whatever MS did to it. Mostly related to playing with friends. As I still have a Mac that I need to use sometimes, I made it look and behave like my Linux install as far as I could just to not have to deal with the new interface.

Seems like moving to graphene and linux was a good choice. I barely used my iphone anymore, but I kept it as compartmentalization is a thing. If you have multiple relays configured, you’re pulling multiple times the same data. The client does then the heavy lifting of deduping, which also affects battery. It’s better for mobile data to reduce to a few relays or just one that already does most the work, but you might miss some notes. You can go many relays on WiFi. I have two clients with different relay configs for that reason.

The stats and logs are not that useful, but it does it's job very well. I would also recommend this. Another option is NextDNS, but it runs in the cloud tho. A solution if you don't want to run and maintain another device. I use it while traveling.
