Die "GitHub-Alternative" ist Forgejo, das selbst gehostet werden kann und dezentral ist und keinerlei Regeln auferlegt. Bald sogar richtig föderiert per ActivityPub.
Codeberg ist ein Verein, der freie Software und Entwicklung fördert und eine Forgejo-Instanz nach seinen Regeln anbietet. Niemand bei @npub1fh7…ee83 hat den Anspruch, GitHub mit einer monolithischen Instanz zu ersetzen.
Wenn dir die Regeln dort nicht gefallen, dann werde Mitglied einer anderen Forgejo-Instanz.

Reality looks different.
I tried to enable it on the @npub1ya2…f6lg XMPP server yesterday and found that the ejabberd packages in #Debian are too old.
Good news is I am now updating them, and making them available in Debian trixie-backports so everyone can then upgrade their servers if they want.
But it's several days of work and hence just about not as close to fire and forget as it sounds 😅.

Kennt ihr das Gefühl, wenn ihr mit einem 7- oder 8-jährigen Kind ein bisschen Spiele programmiert?
Und plötzlich kann es nebenbei Koordinatensysteme, negative Zahlen und Dezimalbrüche, ohne darin Unterricht bekommen zu haben, und die Lösungen für die Aufgaben aus der 6. Klasse schreibt es einfach hin, weil es das gerade halt nebenbei verstanden hat im Eifer der Aktivität?
Solltet ihr. Und wenn ihr die Erfahrung ein paar Mal gemacht habt, revolutioniert ihr das Schulsystem.

It is. In any case, what I did first thing when the name was announced:
1. Wonder "Oh, funny spelling. How is it pronounced?"
2. Open up the website and learn how it is pronounced
I learnt how to do that by finding out that Icinga is not pronounced as I expected. But I also once found out Linux is pronounced differently, and when I was 7, I learnt how to pronounce Windows.
When meeting you, I'd ask how to pronounce haskman first thing.
Just do that for every name.

Das schon. Aber bei manchen Distributionen gibt es doch nochmal Gesichtspunkte, die über Geschmack hinausgehen. Zum Beispiel, dass Canonical ethisch nicht besser ist als Microsoft und seine User genau so wenig wertschätzt, oder dass Manjaro keinerlei Security-Support hat und deshalb zwar einfacher als Arch, aber objektiv keine gute Idee ist.

My question was how to use it, because the docs say it were OpenGraph, then show an example which is not.
The rest of it eveloved after I decided to dig into the code and find out myself.
Now I know how to use it **and** that it is another exhibit in "Mastodon is really a proprietry product".

Erm… concerning the `fediverse:creator` #OpenGraph tag in #Mastodon, described in <https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2024/07/highlighting-journalism-on-mastodon/>:
It's either not an OpenGraph tag (which would be unfortunate), or the example in the blog is wrong.
OpenGraph, being based on #RDFa, uses the `<meta property="…">` attribute, not `name`.
Also, if it is OpenGraph, the what namespace should I add for the `fediverse:` prefix to point to?

Seit Januar bin ich ja deutlich sensibilisiert für das ganze Thema hier. Und ich muss sagen, weder @npub1t3g…qqds noch @npub1xwe…mrd8 sind mir dabei insgesamt positiv aufgefallen. Bis heute nicht.
Digitalcourage hat nichts wirklich aufgearbeitet, und bei der MGV kürzlich waren @npub1kzu…s9e0 und @npub1xwe…mrd8 die einzigen, die sich offenkundig beide nicht an grundlegende Kommunikationsregeln der Versammlung halten wollten.
Dieser Post jetzt macht den Eindruck nicht besser.

Forgejo has widespread adoption. Everyone and their dog migrated to it with its first stable release. Jenkins supports Forgejo just fine (because it is, in fact, Gitea).
The question of a mirror is entirely unrelated, but: "We don't care about federation and make a [second-class] mirror" means you are ok with some contributors being second-class.
