we won every battle in vietnam and lost the war politically, or maybe not, depending how you look at it. arguably it slowed the expansion of communism
we won overwhelmingly in afghanistan on military terms but the nonsense win conditions were never achievable to begin with
same thing in iraq
we're losing in ukraine because it's on the other side of the world against an industrialized power fighting on its own doorstep, and our military is no longer used to fighting that kind of war so it doesn't know how to train the proxy forces. even if we were still heavily industrialized ukraine would still lose, it would just be more painful for russia. the logistics costs supporting a war so far away are tremendous and the pipeline is only so fat, every bullet we ship over there probably costs us 50x more than it costs russia to put a bullet in the magazine of one of their rifles
the US military being used against a citizen rebellion in the US would be a fucking disaster because there would be no safe rear anywhere, no safe logistics, and a large contingent of the US forces would be disinclined to cooperate with orders
fighting mexico via targeting the cartels, mexico being a much weaker country on our own border, is almost as easy as it gets in terms of potential wars. safe rear, easy logistics along the border and across it, unpopular enemy, absolute air supremacy for hundreds of miles into their territory, etc
where you're fighting matters almost more than anything else. it's why russia and china are no threat to the US mainland, in the sense that they could never invade and conquer territory in any meaningful way. they simply do not have the ability to get enough troops here and support them. the fact that the US can fight across an ocean at all is a testament to our incredible military power, *but* as stated above it doesn't translate to incredible power at home because of the impossibility of securing logistics against a well armed citizenry

@nprofile…kgzp there are many prospects, mining is a big deal in alaska. the problem is the state and federal regulations that make everything expensive as fuck, plus litigation constantly getting in the way
there are proven prospects that have been held up in court for literally decades because every time one problem is cleared up the faggot ass environmentalists or "native americans" file another lawsuit to block it. mining in america generally has become a nightmare
and again, most of the state has never been meaningfully explored. there are not only no government incentives aimed at expanding the human footprint in alaska, but 2/3 of the state is owned by the feds and they actively do not want people there

buy a bunch of lightweight internal box magazine hunting rifles in 7mm Remington Magnum, put a fixed 10x mil dot scope on there, and issue two per squad. keep the weight to about 7.5 lb per rifle total package. this can be done for under $2000 per gun even if you're buying gucci shit
however this should be unnecessary for a properly equipped infantry unit. where's the M240B? 60mm mortars? were they restricted from using anything but carbines by some gay ROE?

now we're in this uncomfortable state where a settings page maybe has a save button but often doesn't and there's no consistency. the button, if it does exist, is not properly designed so you notice it. like it'll be below the page view and a bland color so it doesn't stand out
if the button doesn't exist there's often no visual indication that your settings *were* saved, or any indication of what you changed, or any way to easily revert. yes there are some pages that do this well but they stand out as exceptions
I have no idea how we got here but my wild ass guess is it's fundamentally because of the preponderance of dogshit web frameworks where the dev is totally disconnected from the page design and just uses whatever the default is
I'm okay with not needing an explicit save button but just taking the button away and silently saving things is not good design either
