That held a half-million dollars worth of 99.99% pure product (probably 10-mil in today dollars) which would be thousands of doses of the drug.<br/><br/>The techs then took this vial and put it into a lyophilizer to remove the water and produce crystals of the protein for storage and processing.<br/><br/>After quite some time, the vacuum drying process finished, they opened the dryer, and found an empty vial.
