What a mind boggling and raw article by Wired: Steve Rosenbaum has a book out, "The Future of Truth", on the effect of AI chatbots on the understanding of truth. Rosenbaum has a master's degree in "truth" from New York University (what does that even mean?) and has decades of experience in this field: creating news programs for MTV and reporting on the aftermath of 9/11 in New York and much more.

But the New York Times reported that Rosenbaum's book is heavily relying on AI, for example containing made up quotes. Wired had previously published an excerpt from the book, but given its strict no AI policy for content and the reporting by the Times, it pulled the excerpt.

Instead, Wired interviewed Rosenbaum. Here's one quote:

I’m still processing what’s going on in tech at the moment. I used to feel at home in that world. It used to feel incredibly creative and positive. Now it’s increasingly full of bugs, dark addicting patterns and AI slop.

I’m not sure how to change that. We need to provide a better vision for the future than what’s currently pushed by most tech companies. They have a lot of power and (e.g.) many politicians listen to them. That’s why different narratives are important.

Continuity Camera (=iPhone as camera for Mac)—I did some experiments and it only seems to work if I do this:
1. iPhone is unlocked.
2. iPhone falls asleep.
3. Some time passes.
4. CC is activated.

I was not able to skip step 1 and 2 (= to start with a locked iPhone).

I could reconnect after disconnecting by switching CC off and on in the settings.

• First: checkboxes.

• Second: bookmark items. They work like checkboxes but the dialog disappears immediately when you click. Thus: harder to move things to the beginning of a playlist (by removing & adding again) and harder to add a video to multiple playlists.

• Third: dialog remains open when unchecking but still closes immediately when checking.
