I can't see any scenario where the 99 per cent regain control of proceedings more broadly though without massive violence being inflicted on us, as our ruling class will not yield power voluntarily.

I encourage people to read this blog post by James Hansen, which sumarises his group's findings. I have been told in response that I'm just getting old. I don't particularly agree with that sentiment, variously, but particularly so because I make a reasonable enough effort to stay abreast of new music.

I've likewise been told that I'm just a music snob, which, in fairness, I suppose I am.

That's a really interesting study though, so thanks for bringing it to my attention, particularly as it confirms my own observations and theories.

I particularly liked the sentiment that music needs to be freed from the financial constraints that now governs it in order to "reclaim its critical, creative and expressive power". As an example of this, I was reading something elsewhere recently about how in the post punk era, which I personally think is one of the most vibrant few years of music in history, musicians could afford to support themselves purely by living on the dole, albeit modestly, which is obviously no longer so.

Nowadays music, and moreover art generally, is viewed at best as a commodity and at worst as a distraction, even a means of propaganda.

Yes, but there are plenty of complacent older people who own their own property, often multiple properties, and they see the value of their asset is rising, and because they have an "I'm all right, Jack" mentality, they will vote for any party that promises to uphold the status quo where they continue to benefit yearly in terms of rising house prices.

We're seeing a very deliberate destruction of the welfare state.

The problem in my personal situation is that both my neighbours are aggressive, to the point of being actively antisocial, and I really don't want to get on their radar.
So, I meekly accept having to clean up the stairway constantly after them. I also need to accept that they'll be noisy to the point where they're causing me genuine upset.
Put it this way, the police had to be called on Friday because they were having such a huge fight, which actually eventually spilt out onto the street embroiling other neighbours, and they were both arrested. The reason I involved the police is that they have a young child, who was caught up in it all and crying.

Mental health services were at capacity 6 years ago when I was in psychiatric hospital and I am given to understand that locally things are now at breaking point locally and they're having to actively triage patients.
