#gardening yesterday: Nothing big, just a full turn of the hot compost bin. It was indeed hot and black and ashy in the middle. I knocked it down, restacked everything, and watered the layers as I went. By evening when I went back out to add kitchen scraps in, the middle was already warm to the touch. I may keep turning it every weekend to keep the success going.

Today's gardening:
-Dug up the yard compost bin and unearthed the wasp nest
-Sifted enough compost to fill a garbage bin
-Chopped up the Christmas tree and put it in the yard compost bin, put the big sifted-out bits on top
-Did a full turn of the kitchen/medium compost bin, including layering stuff from the kitchen compost tumbler in with medium composted material; medium compost bin now full, kitchen tumbler now mostly empty

It's been a bit warm in the PNW but nothing like the heat dome the rest of the country endured. Still I look forward to the cozy at the end of the year, when it's cool enough to put a blanket on my feet and my feet on an ottoman and have the cat curl up right in the middle of it all.
