Apart from some exception to private clubs - all places could face a legal challenge if a cis woman (or men, any cisgender person) feels a trans person is infringing a same sex space.

Doesn't mean they did anything, just be there. As I said, like apartheid.

the problem is...the laws are a mess, because althought strictly they haven't changed the law - you can pee where you want...these guidelines have emboldened people to sue.

It's called lawfare. So even if the laws don't change, and it stays a guideline - which given what it happening it might not stay just a guideline, it's in effect a law by the backdoor because JK Rowling has a lot of money pledged to fighting unisex toilets, trans people in same sex spaces, etc.

So even though people say 'no rights have changed' - they effectively have. Or people THINK they have, which means they challenge and attack people...when they have no right to. So it means the perception of the law has changed...which makes it the law in effect.

Also puberty blockers being banned (although there is now a trial), trans youth aren't get healthcare...and they are eyeing up doing same for adults. That is directly affected.

These are assessed on laws and actions so it's not a random index. ILGA is a big international org, they don't really have an axe to grind re: UK specifically. We used to be #1 in 2015 after marriage equality!

ILGA has been tracking this for years...decades even. We used to be #1 - now we are way below the European average for LGBTQ rights.

Compare Canada for the legal side - it's not just opinion, it's the legal protections as well. The UK is lagging behind on self ID, access to trans healthcare and puberty blockers, and a bunch of other things.

Immigration is also an issue, since those fleeing homophobic and transphobic regimes, unlike say Canada don't get welcomed, it's much harder to prove. Marriage also means nothing re; a right to stay.

they are - the new guidelines for same sex spaces that came in yesterday is definitely trying to reduce trans and queer rights by segregation - the idea that just by existing in a spce you can get booted out by some complaing white cis het Karen.

People are calling it an apartheid policy, and it's not hyperbole. I have friends who are worried to go into a toilet now....it's not some abstract thing. I am trans non-binary but look cis male so unlikely to get aggro. But others do - and are - including cis women who don't conform to gender.

The whole 'what rights are being attacked?' ignored that the UK has slid down the equality rankings for years, and is now seen as a toxic place.

And they want to take that ostracism of trans folks from spaces further - the lawfare of JK Rowling and co.

I agree Amnesty caved due to legal pressure. But that's Amnesty's job to resist pressure like that....surprised that massive dictatorships didn't get them to cave but a children's book author with a lot of money did?

Estimated 150,000 at London Trans+ Pride…which makes it the biggest trans protest since last year which was 100,000.

Glad I made it this year…a LOT of waiting in the sun. I marched with Switchboard cos John.

This was my first London Trans Pride…or Trans Pride anywhere. I almost didn’t make it again this year…last year I bailed cos of imposter syndrome and feeling out of place in trans spaces as an enby.

This year I had some online aggro from 3 people - turns out 2 of those are queerphobic/transphobic TERFs so makes me feel better.

When that shit comes out of the blue from a not obvious source it can poleaxe me. Randoms and TERFs I do not fucking care, people who I know or seem to be not a TERF plays badly with my radar/ND.

Also I was badly missing John so very low last night and this morning. Glad I went though.
