4pm and a short walk from Kings Cross station to the church we are performing in.

The gorgeous Faure requiem, a new commission that responds to the requiem and grief, and a couple of other pieces, by us and our soloists. I’m going to be offline a lot of the day setting up, final rehearsal and then performing, but I’d love to see you there (and say hi afterwards)

I suspect part of the problem is that he never really adjusted to the speed of the full peloton, he has no problem riding it, but he has spent a lot of time not IN the peloton, so I don’t think he really built the instinctive ability to read the group as much as others, to position himself safely. From memory he tried to get started early, didn’t really succeed in Europe, went home, got his power up, won the Zwift academy and then got signed to a pro team… so he might not be as good at reading the group as others are, but, it is also partly unlucky too

But it does raise a great question, do we need phone coverage everywhere? I would argue that we probably need more coverage than we have, but not as much as some people think we need. It isn’t practical to cover the whole country. It’s possible to get satellite phones in places where coverage is currently lacking. The government probably should offer a subsidised access to satellite phones services for those who are in areas not covered by mobile coverage. And there should be a requirement for any town over a certain size (I would say probably more than 50people) should be entitled to mobile coverage. And, there should be a requirement for major roads to all have coverage all the way. (Because getting stuck on a road without a method of communication is no laughing matter here) - major road being determined by the govt, not the telcos

Yes, there is fraud, but most of that is from the providers, not from "undeserving recipients" - trying to fix the provider problem basically means that the govt has to take the profit motive out or work out how to limit it, and.... That is not going to be a simple fix. The best option would be to offer govt/community run providers to be required to quote for things before you can go to a private operator, or some other way to reduce the ability of for profit providers to provide the bulk of services.

He was not actually riding through the water, he had got off the bike and was carrying it as he walked through the water, but got caught by a deeper patch that was unexpected.

He also regrets not waiting for other riders who were coming behind before trying to cross. (last I heard his bike was still in the river)

They were doing some long distance cycling event, a whole bunch following the same route, and clearly the water had risen, since last checked at the crossing
