It's a portable drop-in reimplementation of systemd-tmpfiles, I already managed to replace systemd-tmpfiles on my Gentoo installation with seedfiles and it just works

i mean what makes xterm special is just how minimal it is, foot is the most minimal wayland terminal emulator i know
the default look of xterm you can recreate on any terminal that lets you change the colours, including foot

you may have some luck by doing a systemctl preset in a chroot and changing the kernel boot arguments to rw instead of ro
iirc systemd likes to do the rw remount in initramfs, if you don't have one it may not be enabled, the preset command could fix that
