Thanks CBC for sending your lawyers after me for including your PUBLIC podcasts in Podcast Addict! Like every podcast app, we don’t host any content—we simply index public feeds. If you don’t want your shows in apps, mark them PRIVATE. End of story.

There's no Automatic download by default in the app. If a user enables automatic download it only applies to NEW episodes (episodes with a newer publication date than the past one). If all the metadata are provided in the RSS feed (file length and duration) then the app just extracts the information from the RSS feed and does NOT access the episodes.

If analytics tools are not able to filter access by IP address then yes I guess they will report invalid data... But it looks like you're insinuating that I'm trying to trick some stats on purpose... Not sure to understand what the point would be here. Why would I care is Podcast Addict is the 25th or 50th most used app?

Also I was just describing what could cause an automatic access to the episode file in your case. If the duration is in the feed, then the app did not access the file. Only users with archive mode enabled or user who manually downloaded the episodes would trigger this

The app here retrieved the episodes and because some information was missing (ie the episode duration) the app retrieved the information. The analytics /logs are reporting this as a download, but this was the Android Metadata retrieval API extracting the duration from the backlog episodes. If this information was provided or if the episodes were added using the pagination mechanism, then not a single episode files would have been called here

Downloading the episode is a different unrelated thing. If the episode duration was in the RSS feed the app would not query the API to retrieve missing metadata. This does not happen when the user subscribe to a podcast. It's only for new published episodes after that. Adding thousands of new entries on an existing feed is not 'standard'.
