There's a few people in #opentransport:matrix.org looking at this for archiving static and realtime data as well. While the focus there seems to be efficient differential storage, there's probably quite a bit of overlap.

For offline routing there's also experiments using extracts in the MOTIS-internal data format in client apps directly, together with CoMaps.

Beobachtung über die letzten Monate dazu hier: Es scheint eher zufällig zu sein (tendenziell häufiger im Ausland, seltener im ICE WiFi). Wenn man davon getroffen wird hilft es den User-Agent zu wechseln (egal wozu!). Das Spiel wiederholt sich dann alle paar Anfragen.

I'd say this isn't even limited to flights but common to all (long distance) travel. Both multi-criteria routing algorithms and UIs for more manual control (e.g. [@trans_europe_planner](https://fosstodon.org/@trans_europe_planner )) are being looked into to help with that.

Cost/availability is currently tricky to consider given the lack of open data. But e.g. optimizing uninterrupted sleep time on night trains could be possible.

Either way, the first step is getting the basic schedule data in, all the above builds on top of that.
