Quite a bit of AI discussion is hype and mis/dis-info and I don't think needs to be coddled here (just as we shouldn't tolerate puppy killers or fascists, even if they're from marginalized groups). Tho there are many shades of gray and I think it's also fair to say some AI discussion is non-hype/mis/dis-info. But my main point is that welcoming marginalized groups should be the focus, not opinions about AI

I went to my third #teslatakedown protest on Saturday, this time in the wealthy Seattle suburb of Bellevue. Great to see another strong turnout of an estimated 350 people and a largely very positive response from passersby. Incidentally, later that day I also traded in my model 3 for a Subaru Crosstrek.
The national (int’l) momentum of this effort is a small bright spot in the fight back. I think there’s a chance it could impact tesla’s sales and stock price in significant way. But…

I'm not sure now. I'm probably going to pause my migration from gmail to proton until I figure something else out. Fastmail seems less problematic, but will probably review some of the other options listed at https://www.optoutproject.net/secure-email/. I'm also not sure I need Proton's level of privacy (tho the more the better and certainly want better than gmail). I can't totally rule out getting a BS account, but there's enough of a critical mass for me on Mastodon and the #fediverse seems like a better path long term for avoiding enshittification. It’s not so much that I would’ve been directly impacted by the AI and crypto features (at least imminently), but more it being a bad sign that these are business priorities. From what I’ve seen these almost always become extractive/exploitive. Since it’s not a pressing need for me to move off of gmail, it’s worth it for me to look around more.

This is mentioned as a risk, but still ends with optimism. Seems like this is something yet to really be demonstrated and as you point there’s some evidence showing the contrary. as I understand it, there’s considerable evidence that a pretty big part of the supposed health risks of being overweight are actually due to all the biases and obstacles such individuals face. But regardless, why dunk on someone for exercising!
