I wonder how much the leave-a-penny-take-a-penny system contributed to spreading viruses like the flu. Now that it's essentially dead, thanks first to the debit card and now doing away with the penny, I wonder if there's a non-trivial reduction in flu rates?

Also, was there an anthropological benefit to the system that we've lost. Does LAPTAP (lol lap tap) have a cultural benefit? Sense of community?

Not to rehash "the left has no liberal Joe Rogan" discourse but, listing to this episode reminded me—oh yeah, billionaires don't like funding things that call out billionaires. But they'll throw money at an anti-trans podcast (like Epstein did).

So the left relies on small donations to people we think are spreading the gospel. I suspect the donations get smaller the further left you go because centrist and some libs also don't like certain ideals out there.

I think it's impossible to overstate how influential leftist voices on TikTok were from about 2019 to 2024. And how flippant liberals outside of the app were to the idea of a US takeover.

I keep reading Letter From a Birmingham Jail. Dr. King lays out the purpose of a protest. I can't help but notice how divorced the #NoKings movement is from those tenants.

If a protest doesn't have a call to action or a means of pressure to bring decision makers to the negotiating table, then it's not a protest. It's a gathering.

I fear so much of mainstream "direct action" is a way to keep us busy and feeling accomplished. We don't know any better because we don't have real activist leaders.

The new Superman trailer shows Krypto in the movie!

James Gunn is my favorite thing about superhero movies. He’s not afraid of the weird and cheesy parts of sci-fi lore. I would love, love if Gunn rebooted Hitchhicker’s Guide to The Galaxy, and embraced the kitschiness of the 1980’s BBC series.
