Folx #onHere recommended that I get a Pilot Kakuno or Twsbi Eco as another starter fountain pen, thank you for that. I was meeting someone, an up-and-coming creator focused on journaling/arts, in person for the first time and coincidentally they were going to get something similar (though, for their purposes, it would be a "beater" pen, as they put it). We bonded a bit over the experience of trying out the different sizes of Eco, and I swapped pens with them in exchange for ink, given that I currently don't own any, and they have far too much. They were surprised at how much they liked a stubby/bold nib as an extra fine user, and conversely, I was surprised with how much I liked the fine as a bold user. The nib felt smoother than the Pilot Preppy and I think it will help to have lettering that doesn't take up as much space when minimizing the number of sheets in a letter. Filling the Twsbi's piston cartridge for the first time was fascinating. I also got a converter for the Preppy, per the other recs I got on here too! I do want to give it another chance.

I recently helped fix a record player at a Repair Cafe and realized that they are super simple inside. They had purchased it for $1. I definitely want to track down a cheap vinyl player now so I can expand my physical library into vinyls, not just CD's. The CD's will satisfy me for now. I've been listening to CD's more in my car and am trying to be more intentional about listening to artists recommended by friends rather than relying on algorithmically generated radios when streaming. It occurred to me today that similar to a book site like Bookwyrm, I could use MusicBrainz to get metadata and use CritiqueBrainz to leave small ratings and reviews that will give me an outlet for being more opinionated about the music I listen to. I went to a local office supply store to try out some pens. The clerk helped me pick out some pens based on my criteria that lined up closely with pens I had in mind from what I'd seen online. I ended up getting a set of two Uniball 207+ pens for $7.50. I was also considering getting a Pentel EnerGel since I did have good experience with the .3 mm and they had a version for .5 mm that felt more similar to a ballpoint experience. The price was about the same but I wouldn't need to buy two. In the end, I decided I wanted to experiment more with the Uniball. I also got a super entry-level fountain pen, the Platinum Preppy. It's better suited for writing in cursive and requires me to be more intentional than I am at times speed writing. I like how smooth the writing is, the Uniball was already quite smooth, and while it may be more watery than the Uniball, it bleeds through less. I am excited to run with these for a bit : )

Hey y'all, I have a friend of a friend who's from my home country of Myanmar. She has been living in the US for several years on a student visa. She was rejected from H1B. I think her company (decent software company) would be open to sponsoring but it seems that that hasn't necessarily always led to success. She has until her student visa ends before being deported. She's also considering non-US countries as back-up plans but ideally she wouldn't have to leave. She is going to try to apply again for H1B.

First of all, I want to clarify some things about fundraising in Myanmar. Many people are still in too much shock to set up formal fundraising platforms. Even for those who have, it is extremely difficult to transfer funds with high transfer fees and bank limits. Still, I cannot recommend donating to large organizations like the Red Cross, those funds are sure not to see the light of day.

I am only sharing links that have been shared to me by someone who has family in Myanmar, either my own family, or my friends. Some of the funds may be linked to Christian organizations due to the presence of missionaries in the country that have international connections unlike the Buddhist majority. I will not hold it against you if you decide not to donate to them.

Facebook is also the most popular social media within Myanmar with international presence. Some organizations may not have information other than on Facebook.

It is very hard to contact people in Myanmar due to the limited access to power and reliable communications as well. If you reach out to these organizations, understand that they might have limited capacity to respond to you. Please be patient.

On March 28th, a 7.7 magnitude hit the home country of my parents. My dad's side lost one house. My mom's side was outside the earthquake zone. Thankfully, they are safe, but power is still down in most of the country and the destruction of major roads disrupt access to food and supplies. Schools collapsed while in session and historical sites have been destroyed. Some of our family friends lost their lives among the hundreds.

I am re-posting thread to clean things up a bit, since I was a bit emotional when I first made them.

I don't have good recs for places to donate at this time. The people are still in shock. It is extremely hard to send money legally into Myanmar. This is an ongoing issue for years and I would warn that most non profits like Red Cross are not reputable and actually trying to take advantage of Myanmar people as a sob story to swindle people from money.

Only look for funds that clearly go directly to people. My mom's friend runs a school that may start a fundraiser. I will share information once I hear from family. Thank you.

After the earthquake in Myanmar, my aunt's house suffered minor damage. Thankfully they are safe and the house is still up. She owns her brother in laws house which fell down, so his family is living with my aunt now.

My family shared reports about how a Chinese school collapsed during classes, a historical pagoda that they used to visit being destroyed, and Mandalay university being on fire. My mom's friend lost his father and aunt.

I hate the taste of mint toothpaste and just assumed everyone else hated it too but were bearing with it? It was a problem since I was a kid that made me reluctant to brush. Until my partner informed me that he very much never had an issue with the taste.

Not very surprised when I searched online for non-mint toothpaste and consistently found results in r/autism. Oh yeah, I guess it's a stimulation thing. Mint toothpaste is spicy in a bad way I don't look forward to. Cinnamon toothpaste sucks too.

I ended up finding folx commonly recommend flavored brands like Hello, Boka, Hi Smile, and Marvis.

Hello is the cheapest I've found for <$5 for 4.4 ounces. It's still more than common brands like sensodyne and not travel sized. Need to make sure to get one marked "Flouride" since kids toothpaste is sometimes fluoride free. They have flavors like blue raspberry and orange creamsicle.
