the real problem is that prohibition has been proven over and over again as not an effective harm reduction policy. Alas, I believe this is currently another knee-jerk moral reaction, which reaches for the ban stick.

History and research tell us that what will happen is that usage by those who require the most help will continue, but it will become harder to monitor, control, and offer support when it causes harm.

Also, the Australian experiment needs more time before review.

The issue is further compounded by successive governments failures to plan for our aging population and declining birth rate.

The original Pension model was based on a logic that the population looked like a pyramid with a small percentage at the top receiving it , supported by the majority of the population.

Alas now our population looks more like a cylinder, this means more pensioners and fewer workers to pay their pensions.

This was forecasted, and was just ignored. #pensions #Ukpolitics

One of the reasons state pension reform is so politically difficult is that even for the richest 25% of the population (with private pensions & also continued earnings) the state pension represents around 25% of their income.

The (so called) 'triple-lock' which was intended to slowly reduce pensioner poverty *has* done so, but it has also failed to ensure UK pensions match comparable provision across the EU.

So, is the triple lock 'unaffordable' or politically necessary?
