Portraying microplastics as colorful confetti bits places it within discourse about "recycling" as diversionary tactic, circle-jerk arguments about individual vs corporate responsibility.

Sitting with fact that fourth estate's depiction of microplastics is typically a photograph of a (white) hand or finger dusted with festive or mostly bright white specks, even geometric pieces of gaily colored confetti.

Strangely, in NYC, floss appears to be one of the only product categories that is consistently not locked down.

Perhaps because it's too inexpensive, compared to body washes or vitamins, to justify the reduction in sales that would result in making customers stand around for 5 to 10 minutes waiting for someone to unlock it.

Savvy New Yorkers would just learn to buy their floss at a no-name discount store where they can't afford to pay staff to play product jailers.

That said, went on an odyssey of trying to find any unwaxed, non-mint dental floss for a friend in hospital a month or so back. Half a dozen different, unrelated stores with a whole area of empty hooks for floss products that were simply absent, across multiple brands.

Which suggests the supply chain problem may even be further up the chain, perhaps a chemical or other consumable used commonly in the production process of the floss itself.

Imagine J&J would have a lock on their brand in Cali and the rest of pacific North America. If for no other reason than protection of their premium pricing. The product may be *produced* offshore, but it would be same product as sold in New York.

If it's not on the shelves, that's supply chain. Maybe something as simple as they've redesigned the packaging and pulled the old. (Happened with Triscuits recently.)

Of course, smaller stores may source outside approved channels.

LG acquired rights to the Reach brand for the Asia-Pacific market in 2016. In the North American market, is still J&J.

Amazon would seem to be localizing based on where the person is ordering from, even for products that are sourced from elsewhere. As, for instance, a dropship merchant who gets AP market bulk goods and then resells them piecemeal on Amazon. Likely a violation of trade treaties, but Amazon's not gonna refuse to make a sale.
