Call it Big Walk Report Zero if you wish. But here is a little Big Walk Report from a little over a week ago.<br/><br/>I was gonna hike but went for neighborhood walkies instead. It was very cinematic.<br/><br/>First, I walked outside and noticed an ambulance backing into a neighbor&#39;s house. Wonder what happened. I then pass by not 1, but 2 dead chipmunks squashed in the road, both surrounded by many flies. They must have been playing together. So sad. I had to get off this road of death.<br/><br/>I mosey on down to another neighborhood and stroll around. I reach a quiet juncture near a stream and turn a corner to hear the muffled sounds of someone practicing their drumming in a closed garage. Comfy. As I keep walking, that sound gives way to someone blasting a French pop song in their driveway. It was Plastic Bertrand&#39;s &#34;Ça plane pour moi&#34;. A teenage girl came out of the house, got in her car, and drove off. I kept walking and saw a sprinkler rhythmically spraying water on a lawn. The lone &#34;tick tick tick&#34; was comfy.<br/><br/>Then I went down into the basement where my friend—the maniac—busies himself with his electronic graffiti. Finally his language touches me, because he talks to that part of us which insists on drawing profiles on prison walls. A piece of chalk to follow the contours of what is not, or is no longer, or is not yet; the handwriting each one of us will use to compose his own list of &#34;things that quicken the heart,&#34; to offer, or to erase. In that moment poetry will be made by everyone, and there will be emus in The Zone.<br/><br/>And oh how sweet it is, my friends.
