It states that high-dimensional data can be projected into a much lower-dimensional space while approximately preserving pairwise distances.

Why it matters:

Explains why random projections work
Enables scalable learning in high dimensions
Used in embeddings, compressed learning, and ANN search
Helps fight the curse of dimensionality

The surprising part:

You can reduce dimensions dramatically without destroying the geometry of the data.

Thats why many ML systems can operate efficiently even with massive feature spaces.

Modern representation learning is deeply connected to this idea:

Good embeddings preserve structure while compressing information.

An updated version of BIP 360 has just been merged into the official Bitcoin BIP GitHub repository.

The update introduces Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR), a proposed new output type that omits Taproots quantum-vulnerable key-path spend while preserving compatibility with Tapscript and script trees.

It also includes:
- Removal of Taproots quantum-vulnerable key-path spend in a separate opt-in new output type.

- A foundation for introducing post-quantum signatures while using Tapscript/script tree for spend time optionality.

- The change is a soft fork that does not affect existing Taproot outputs.

- Addition of Isabel Foxen Duke as co-author, to ensure the BIP was clear and understandable to the general public, not just the Bitcoin developer community.

The BIP also addresses criticism about Bitcoin devs not taking the quantum threat seriously. We are grateful to every Bitcoin contributor who took the time to review and provide feedback.

To put that in perspective GCC took thousands of engineers over 37 years to build. (Granted from 1987 - however) One researcher and 16 AI agents just built a compiler that passes 99% of GCC's own torture test suite, compiles FFmpeg, Redis, PostgreSQL, QEMU and runs Doom.

They say they "(mostly) walked away." But that "mostly" is doing heavy lifting.

No human wrote code but the researcher constantly redesigned tests, built CI pipelines when agents broke each other's work, and created workarounds when all 16 agents got stuck on the same bug.

The human role didn't disappear. It shifted from writing code to engineering the environment that lets AI write code.

I dont know how you could make the point AI is hitting a wall.

Putting aside the obviously woke main branch name change

The goal here appears to be to make new releases of Xorg which have as little influence as possible from past contributions by the main developer of @XLibreDev.

While the motivation of Xorg seems obvious Xorg has personal animosity towards the lead developer of XLibre, stemming from a combination of him forking Xorg as well as him having non-Leftist political views (which is not allowed) the fact that Xorg is looking to make an effort at new releases *at all* is more than a little peculiar.

Over the last few years, key developers of Xorg (and Wayland) have made it clear that a primary goal of the Xorg Foundation is to, ultimately, kill off Xorg entirely (in order to drive adoption of Wayland, by force). And, to that end, they have been working quite hard, refusing (literally) thousands of code submissions over many years and dragging their feet on significant features and fixes (many of which are already incorporated into the XLibre fork).

Is this a reaction to the widespread adoption of XLibre, which appears to be gaining momentum? Or, perhaps, is this bizarre strategy prompted by the fact that Wayland adoption has stagnated (sharing roughly equal market share as Xorg/XLibre), despite forcing Wayland on users for several years?

Will this approach be formally adopted? It appears likely, as this is a proposal from Alan Coopersmith, an Xorg Foundation Board member and Xorg release manager.

They calculate "water footprint" using three categories: green water (rainfall), blue water (actual irrigation), and grey water (theoretical dilution water).

For beef, 94% is green water. Rain falling on pasture that cattle drink and piss back within days. This rain was falling anyway. It's the natural water cycle.

Only 4% is blue water - actual irrigation.

For almonds? They often only report blue water and leave out green water calculations they included for beef.

Actual blue water comparison:

Beef: 50 liters per liter
Almonds: 600 liters per liter

Almonds use 12 times more actual irrigation than beef. But the headline says beef uses more water because they counted rain falling on pasture.

British beef: 90% of water is rainfall on permanent pasture in Wales and Scotland. Rain that falls constantly whether cattle are there or not. The cattle drink it, piss it back, it returns to the water table within days. Closed loop.

California almonds: 80% of world's almonds grown in chronic drought region. Pumping groundwater from aquifers that took 10,000 years to fill. The Central Valley is literally sinking as water is drained. Some areas have dropped 28 feet.

One borrows from the rain cycle. One mines prehistoric water reserves. But the statistics make you draw the opposite conclusion.

At 31, my life was taken from me for standing up for what I believed in. And Charlie helped me get it back. He never took credit for it but he played a BIG role in my freedom in many ways. Akathisia is not just restlessness. The movements dont even begin to express the true depth of the torture it inflicts.

Unless someone has been forced to exist and try to survive severe akathisia, they cannot begin to comprehend it.

It's a living nightmare worse than a horror movie.
Severe fear of being alone (yet many are alone).. feeling like a terrified child alone in the world.

It feels like you're on the verge of combustionthere is so much agitation at unbearable intensity that you could spontaneously erupt into flames at any second.

Extreme terror and panic

As if a relentless, merciless serial killer is hunting you every moment of every day.

You cant rest. You cant breathe fully. Your body and mind are gripped by an overwhelming sense that something unspeakably evil is coming for youno hiding place. Just the suffocating certainty that youre being stalked, even in the silence, even when no one is around.

Youre flooded with a deep dread that something is coming to destroy you, and theres absolutely nothing you can do to escape it.

It also feels like youve been hurled out of a plane at full force with no parachutecompletely helpless, spiraling through the sky. You know the ground is coming, and when it does, it will end you but the ground never comes. Youre trapped in an endless, stomach-dropping free-fall. Every nerve is on fire. Your heart is pounding so violently it feels like it might burst through your chest. Adrenaline floods your entire body in relentless waves. Youre not just afraidyoure in a state of soul-shaking terror. Theres no escape, no control, no reliefjust an unending descent into a nightmare that wont let go.

It can also feel like youre fused to a live electrical wire a relentless, searing current surging through every inch of your body. Your skin crawls, and theres an unbearable internal buzzing, as if youre being electrocuted from the inside out.

All this and more happening while you try to fight so much urgency and impulse to unalive yourself to escape the unrelenting torture.

Akathisia is a torture so unimaginable that its hard to believe its real.

For some the torture is short lived... while others it can last many years at constant severe levels.
This is just some aspects of akathisia and not everyone gets all the symptoms (including some ppl dont get the outer movement). There are no words that even come close to truly explaining this horrific condition... and what its like to try and survive.

The bravest and strongest people I know are those that have endured severe akathisia for any amount of time but even more so the ones that survive with this barbaric condition at constant severe levels for years.

Akathisia Warriors... even the ones that don't survive.

@jordanbpeterson is taking some time off of everything.

He was diagnosed with CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome) due to a genetic predisposition that causes the immune system to have an inability to identify and detoxify mold/bacteria in indoor air (the genetic predisposition is not that rare, its in about 25% of people but he has a severe version).

Over the last year or so hes been feeling the impact of CIRS more and more. Recently he was exposed to a particularly moldy environment while helping clean out my grandfathers house after he passed away which severely flared symptoms.

To be crystal clear - this isnt about akathisia or medication. Hes not on any medication. Its an immune system dysfunction.

CIRS (chronic inflammatory response syndrome) is what has been behind his multiple health issues and random severe allergies and severe food sensitivities over the years. Hes really been suffering from this badly since 2017 we just didnt know what it was called. Only eating meat helped keep the symptoms under control but it hasnt been enough recently.

CIRS is also the explanation behind recent cancelled shows, cancelled events, sporadic appearance of being rundown and general weepiness (caused by pain).

Hes pausing the podcast at the moment but were hopeful for a somewhat speedy recovery given we at least know whats going on, and there is treatment, and hes responding well although its pretty rough.

Praise GOD that we finally know whats been going on.

The fact that doctors dont generally recognize that mold exposure in indoor air is causing chronic health issues is insane. The fact that this is the cause behind our food sensitivities and inability to tolerate anything other than meat (for 8 years now), multiple disorders and diseases in my family, and is virtually unrecognized by the medical community, is absurd.

Just like the medical system didnt recognize ketogenic diets as a treatment for mental disorders 10 years ago (and still most doctors dont).

Just like psych med withdrawal wasnt recognized 5 years ago (and still more doctors dont recognize it).

This indoor air quality problem that causes Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome will be commonly diagnosed in the next 5-10 years. I am positive about that.

Praying we can treat him quickly and the medical community can be more aware of CIRS and building codes can change (add ERVs to HVACs) so we can get fresh air indoors.

Everyone should take this extremely seriously if they have psych, autoimmune, or neurodegenerative disorders, or have family members they live with who suffer from these disorders as mold toxicity manifests in people exposed equally, differently.

To the people in Brazil - he apologies for not being able to make the event and definitely hopes to make it out there in the future. He apologizes for moving his European tour.

So, for now on YouTube he has episodes of the new call in Q and A show -Answer the Call- that him and I recorded together before he got really ill recently. He was very excited to put this out, helping people is what he enjoys the most. Thats why he does what he does.

Could your code be a trending GitHub gist?

This coding style guide has allowed bacteria to colonize every ecological nook from cold to hot to acidic or alkaline in the depths of the Earth and the vacuum of space, along with an insane diversity of carbon anabolism, energy metabolism, etc. It excels at rapid prototyping but... it can't build complex life. By comparison, the eukaryotic genome is a significantly larger, more complex, organized and coupled monorepo. Significantly less inventive but necessary for complex life - for building entire organs and coordinating their activity. With our advantage of intelligent design, it should possible to take advantage of both. Build a eukaryotic monorepo backbone if you have to, but maximize bacterial DNA.

I have a very simple message: people don't hate you for the OP_RETURN stuff. They don't hate you for any of those nonsense battles.

Despite a few loudmouths, most people couldn't care the slightest bit about anything like that.

People hate you because they have the impression (rightly or wrongly) that you are trying to be the gatekeepers of the rules of the system.

A public, rigorous specification that is neutral, formally verifiable, and allows other people to write and verify their own implementations would totally solve the problem.

The "filter" thing with Knots is just a proxy battle over this.

And to the opponents of Bitcoin Core:

Replacing Bitcoin Core with Knots will not fix any of your real problems. It is a totally futile and useless battle. Don't be stupid. Don't fall for it. Be firm in what is actually bugging you.
