After having my Celestron SLT 130 telescope for some 10 years now, yesterday it broke. Exactly before the total solar eclipse next month...after I was preparing so much for it.

What broke? This shitty little plastic gear that got worn out over the years:

That's all. A terrible design pairing such badly made gears with metal ones. And now I cannot control the left/right movements of my telescope. And I cannot find a way to replace it. Or to buy the entire motor... Unless, maybe, I order it from USA/Canada and I pay a lot of money and may not arrive in time for the eclipse.

Humans are all the same basically. It is the same lineage of evolution for the Homo Sapiens. Regardless if you see some visual traits amongst some populations, these are just visual and have nothing to do with behavior. Human behavior is created by the environment, of course. This is why a chinese baby that grows in US will emulate the American values. Or like your example if someone form Japan ends up in Congo they will talk their language and emulate their behaviors. Oh I have a lot of back and leg pain for the past year and we are investigating why. Tingling, numbness, etc.. Sorry to hear that, but at least you have some answers and perhaps a solution. I was wondering how long it took the doctors to discover what was the issue? Drives me nuts we can't figure why I have these issues and I work on my computer a lot so sitting down is a "pain in the ass" almost literally :D.

Had MRI and all sorts of muscle/bone specialists looking at it. So far nothing they see.

That is a massive database for 1 user. Even our Friendica that has over 1k users is half that size. Also a lot of Media storage I see. Likely you should prune the old media that is not even accessed anymore. Else you are caching all media and store it locally.

The biggest Mastodon instance we manage has 2 users, 1 has 23k followers. The database is 3.7GB and stored Media about 40GB,

Yes....I noticed that too. You know there were many loud people and projects for the past decade or so. Some protesting, some proposing radical alternatives to this so called "capitalist" society. Meaning this trade-based society. They are all kinda gone now...

I am one of them. Since 2011 I scream and scream and scream. And do all sorts of projects.

But the truth is that we are like trying to grow a crop in the middle of Times Square. There is no fertile soil, only concrete and people trying to stop you doing it.

There is no help for me to create and maintain the so many projects I do. There is no support for the so many good-willing people out there who want to protect nature, do good deeds, amazing projects, open source, and so on. NOTHING.

We have to fend for ourselves - to find ways to trade and stay alive, while doing these things. There is no way forward like that.

We are bound to perish.

I keep on surviving, surprisingly enough, with more projects than I started in 2011. But my reach is hundreds of times less than it was in 2011. I have to trade at times to make some money, I have to stress over not having enough to make it, I have to do a ton of work that should be done by 10 people normally.

The financial support is bleeding out, the interest I feel is not even present that much.

It all sounds very pessimistic but it is the truth. However I am still not giving up. I have new ideas and approaches.

And I know there are MANY MANY people out there who still keep the flame of revolting and activism alive, and all they need is a bit of fertile soil to thrive. But to get that fertile soil, the help, is really hard. And perhaps that is where the focus should be.

Maybe TROM will start to focus on that bit...

If you are one of us, don't despair. You are for sure not alone. Maybe new projects and forms of activism will arise out of the stagnant frustration and anger that so many have layered within.

A system in which its members cannot even have the time and means to protest or propose/work on alternatives, is an abusive system. It only wants for "it" to survive, as it is the only way for its members to stay afloat. Therefore humans have to trade in the trade system, to survive. That is the forced incentive. Anything else can only temporarily survive.

The trade game has to go.

You and others need to help us and people like us, if possible, to get the Peertube content out. So that people get to use Peertube more often.

I choose to post on Peertube first, or only, despite not reaching as many people as I would on Youtube, but I do it because I think it is worth the effort to promote this sane alternative to the giant ad-platform that Youtube is.

And thank you for what you've created. By "helping" us, I mean perhaps promote good and original Peertube content on your homepage and also share it if possible. As for "it's not trade if it's coerced" - we are mostly coerced to trade nowadays. Want food? Trade your time, energy, skills to someone else, get a currency, go trade it for food. Food is essential yet you have to trade for it, you have no other choice. And so it goes for pretty much anything.

Trade is an exchange, voluntarily or not.

I wish people would stop saying this about google and the like. There is a simple and to the point way of describing these "free" services. They are TRADE-BASED. You have to trade something to them, in order to use their services.

In the same way that when you go to a supermarket you have to trade your currency for what you grab from it, you have to trade your attention (ads) or data to Google when you go on their platform. Currency, attention, data.

We live in a TRADE-BASED society where pretty much everything is trade-based. Money is just a currency we invented, but trades go without currency as well.
