It can replace a lot of what people do, but to really push it to the limit to not just type prompt and hope for the best people need to be good at planning, articulating, validating and test results. These skills have been the basis of productive and quality results for a long time and nothing I have seen changes this. Backups aren't great, but I also don't have a ton that doesn't either connect to a self-hosted server or can just be manually done occassionally. That being said I lean on rsync in termux, which is really driven by my use of rsync.net. I very recently discovered "Git Sync" and have been looking for an excuse to run Gitea, so might try that out. Otherwise I am fine redoing settings on a wipe.

"Investment grade vehicle" very often means little more than it doesn't depreciate, or does so slowly enough so you don't care. Very few if almost none increase in value, and certainly not if they are used for what they were designed for, driving. Use metro pass cards for instance, pay machine in cash, don't use app. So long as they continue to see people doing this they less likely they are to force automation and app use.

So much concern over grapheneOS and border patrol. I can't speak to in person, but their CBP Roam app is pure garbage. Didn't work at all, crashed repeatedly on wifes iOS. Even their iPad kiosk needed permission tweaking. Multiple calls and frustration finally got checked in. I feel people are worried about a technical competency that just isn't there. Signal was a lot easier to onboard friends with when it could be their SMS replacement. iOS has gained this ability now to switch default apps and that is going to much harder to overcome iMessage but instead we got Stories and a Shitcoin integration, even still would have been great to reduce friction to adoption. No account needed. From github you can install the Obtanium .apk from the releases section. Valdium(browser) doesn't all installs, so you will be prompted to enable that. Once obtanium is installed, it gets a little easier because you can search and keep a list of the apps and perform updates and such, but really all it is doing is giving you a way to manage downloading and install ing apks from the various sources it supports. The settings in obtanium will seem confusing. "Usually" you can ignore most of them, but occasionally if you want to get specific about versions or prelease installs and such it lets you tweak it.

And please ask away, it can be an up hill battle at first. I came from iOS as well but am technical, and even still I found myself craving the ease of iOS. Don't get discouraged, its worth it.

I have a 16, there is a small bit of compromise in solidness. Overall machine is solid, keyboard and trackpad are solid and stay well in place as any other laptop. There is a little bit of split I notice with the pieces that fill in around the trackpad but that's really it. IMHO though being able to fix, replace, repair is totally worth it.
