Early 90's, my high school there were these three kids who snuck into the computer room each night to use the computers to just noodle around on the nascent internet After a few such visits, they must have tripped an alarm because the cops were called, students thrown to the ground, prosecuted, charged with the use of "thousands" of dollars of computer "use" and expelled - for basically messing with modems, BBS's.

But the principal got in front of cameras 🙄

What a time to be alive. I am old enough to remember pre-world wide web, wondering if it would really ever amount to anything beyond a nerd haven. Dot com bubbles, crypto, NFT's, tech bros would have seemed fanciful.

The idea of all that happening - and then wanting to ditch it all in favor of rotary phones and CRT's would have been even wilder.
