Yes, it's approximated based on schedules and paths contained in the schedule with a fallback to open street map routes.
The closest thing to real time locations is the delay view, which at least shows if there is delay information for the trip.

With the recent MOTIS v2.11 update, an initial implementation of ticketing deep links is now available. It allows to get to the external booking flow directly from the Transitous results.

You can try it for example with VIA Rail in Canada, with LTG Link in Lithuania or in multiple cities in France.

The feature is based on the Google Transit Ticketing Extension, so if you publish GTFS, please consider adding support for it.

This should hopefully be fixed with the next MOTIS update. Likely ...

You probably used the DB API before through Öffi/Transportr, which does not officially allow apps other than DB Navigator to call it. It is known to block people based on IP address reputation, operating system etc.

Transitous is instead mostly based on open data that operators have to publish under EU/German regulations, so your query is never passed on to an operator-ran API.

There is also Öffi-ng that supports using Transitous, but the UI ...

We are considering enforcing our usage policy by rejecting API requests that are clearly not compliant. Although right now the resource usage is pretty much fine, we want to be able to prioritise open-source / free software clients should it become necessary.

So if you think your application might be one that sends "node" or "python-requests" as its user agent, please fix it in order not to be affected.

Leider kennen wir bisher auch noch keine gute Anwendung um GTFS-Fahrpläne zu erstellen, wie es vielleicht für eine Museumsbahn am einfachsten wären. Per Hand sind diese etwas mühsam, aber möglich zu erstellen.

Wenn der Fahrplan bereits irgendwie strukturiert digital existiert (Datenbank, Planungssoftware mit API o.ä.), ist der beste Weg allgemein einmal einen GTFS-Export zu bauen, so dass keine regelmäßige händische Arbeit notwendig ist.
