All the meeja are using misleading images for the story about illegal peat extraction.

This is not about sods of turf for home heating.

This is about large scale extraction of peat for horticultural use, almost all of which is exported. Much of it goes to Northern Ireland. Some of that comes back down here into garden centres as 'compost' in pretty packages.

In more pleasant news, this month a woman in the village celebrated her 105th birthday. The local primary school kids marked it by creating a newspaper page with a snippet of news from each of those 105 years.

The news they thought most important is quite a mix: the Holocaust, Rosa Parks' arrest, the moon landing, Ireland joining the EU, Live Aid, Papillion winning the Grand National and the local Centra closing.

The community “won’t provide the same goodwill it showed Ukrainians to Ipas applicants”. I take that to mean no people of colour.
