Just reading the newsletter from my Episcopal cathedral and there were 62 teens and adults alone accepted or baptized into the church at the Easter service alone. This Sunday there will be even more baptisms of babies. We have so many converts and baptisms, we have to split them up over multiple services.

We introduced ourselves and I said that the situation in Iran really weighs on me-- I had another group meeting tonight which I had abandoned because I felt I absolutely had to be at a protest. Y'all, if you haven't been to a protest yet, the "usual suspects" at the protests will LOVE IT if you show up. We don't do the preachy stuff you see on the internet. I hope the people we were waving to can also feel some spark of hope that lingers after we drive back to our homes. That is always the goal in these protests.

There were two other big anti-war protests in my city today, which I might have attended if my neighbor hadn't needed my car during the afternoon. But I'm so glad I went to this one. The ICE facility really is the focal point, the boil that needs to be lanced. And I thought attendance might be reduced with overlapping protests.

A rabbi spoke to us about the collective mourning that happens at Passover, and we also sang Jewish songs of mourning. We were led in the Jewish mourners' Kaddish, which was particularly emotional for the Jews present who had said that prayer for lost loved ones. I just had a wonderful and very informative meetup with a new community defense group I got added to through ICE watch.

Imagine 15 of the friendliest, most community minded people imaginable sitting around in a pub with nametags giving our real names and Signal chat names, talking about the absolutely wild shit we've seen with ICE. Also lots of discussion about police collaboration with ICE, unprepared schools, local governments that are hit or miss.

We looked like any big group of friends.

I saw a guy in Minnesota who's a regular protester, and his daughter, a psych major in college, was conducting a study about protests and mental health. Her theory was the people who regularly take action in resistance-- despite the extra stress and effort-- are actually in better mental shape than people who don't or can't. Ours was joyful as always, which is also important. Lots of people passing by joined us, smiled, laughed, and took pictures and videos. We do reach a lot of new people with our messaging and our silly approach, and that's the other side of the coin. We bridge trolls had an event planned on a bridge downtown for a couple of weeks, so we just added some anti-war signs to our usual banners. As with the last time we were on that bridge, most of the drivers on the interstate honked for us continuously for over two hours. The middle fingers were very few.

We didn't have quite so many people on the bridge with us, probably because there was an emergency protest downtown...
