I was entering Zion National Park in Utah the other day, it was a long line. The group of four in front of me were interrogated by the park ranger if they were US residents. They said they weren't. She then pointed at this sign and informed them they'd have to produce $400 to enter the park.

Mr Dawson was a real person, and he would show goats at various competitions around the district, and also sell hamburgers at the shows. Mum informed us we were not to buy Mr Dawson's hamburgers.

There was a massive teacher shortage in Australia in the early 70s so Australia was offering generous relocation packages to qualified teachers from other countries. (This is how I encountered my first Americans!)

Our sex-ed teacher was Mrs Narayan, she had migrated from India, wore a beautiful saree, and had a bindi. It might just be me, but I've found local TV news coverage of the LA fires to be mostly terrible. It's low on information and high on disaster porn/drama, and a fair bit of it has been wildly misleading. They cannot shake their bog standard reporting templates for this critical event.

- On-scene reporters asking people who are literally running around putting out spot fires at their house if they could stop for an interview.
- Picking through the ashes of houses and putting burnt photo albums and other destroyed personal items on camera.
- Certain helicopter reporters yelling mostly low information nonsense for half an hour.
- Obviously wholly unqualified opining on emergency response, and evacuations that has caused massive confusion (no, NBC4, all of LA isn't under a boil-water alert from the DWP).

There's an opportunity here for local TV news to be a useful asset for the community, and they're all too frequently blowing it.

Oh wow, that's a blast from the past. I did the port of PO'ed from 3DO to Playstation in the mid-90s, it took me about five months from memory. I thought that game was long gone and forgotten.

The Wikipedia page doesn't quite match my recollection, though perhaps roles changed when I finished that contract. Russ Pflughaupt did all the fairly difficult 3D rendering code for the 3DO platform and Brian Yen was the primary artist.

The Sony Playstation dev platform was interesting. It was basically a Playstation on a PCI card with another sandwich card both plugged into a Windows PC. The dev environment was a bit crude, but got the job done. I dimly recall that Sony was using gcc for a compiler.
