I was not looking for work in HR so it was not damaging but some of it was upsetting like being dropped from invites to get togethers and reunions. I have been sick all week with a horrible chesty cold and last night I had a severe coughing fit. Being asthmatic and getting a lot of bad coughs I thought I had things under control but then I started coughing up fresh blood and quite a lot of it. <br/><br/>I phoned 111 and between coughing and my voice having dropped at least 2 octaves I managed to explain what had happened and was told to take myself to A&amp;E. As you can imagine the local taxi driver was not very impressed when he picked me up and I was looking worse than an impoverished Victorian consumption victim but he took me to hospital anyway.<br/><br/>Having suffered many a long waits in A&amp;E I have to say that when you turn up coughing up frothy blood they act quickly. I was rushed through triage and quickly got checked out by doctor who seemed pretty sure it was not too serious. After a few hours for scans and tests it was confirmed that there was nothing else going on and I had damaged my throat/vocal chords by coughing and popped some minor blood vessels. Apparently this is enough to make you look like the bloodiest victim in a horror movie!!!<br/><br/>After a few hours I was back home with a bag of medicines and strict instructions to rest up for a few days and to not talk unless absolutely necessary. My neighbour kindly helped by bring lots of goodies from his allotment and promised more next week. He thinks his leeks will be ready soon and they are one of my favourite veg. In return I feed his cats when he goes on holiday which is no bother at all. My kitchen is now full of locally grown fresh fruit and veg plus my supermarket shop this week will be very small. This is a really good deal for me! <br/><br/>My gardener neighbour also has no time for any trans or queer nonsense. We had a chat a year or so ago about our local council wasting money on stupid things including several Pride road crossings. It is so much worse now than 10 or even 5 years ago. There are more sick people as we have an aging population and there are less GP appointments or other clinics available. The staff are mostly great and often brilliant whilst working under war zone like conditions in A&amp;E departments. This is not just because of Covid backlogs. They are many problems which have been left to fester for way too long.<br/><br/>Today we arrived at the hospital at 11am. I left my mum at 10pm and for all that time she was on a trolley bed in a corridor. All her admission tests, regular obs checks, doctor assessments were all done in the corridor. No privacy even when they had to partially undress her for an ECG. There was also no system for her to ask for nurse assistance. If I hadn&#39;t had stayed with her I doubt she would have got much if anything to eat or drink and would have been left to soil herself as she was not able to get out of bed to go to the bathroom.<br/><br/>I hate that is this is now just a normal day in a big UK hospital.
