A day after Israeli leaders warned of escalating its military campaign against Hezbollah, pagers belonging to the Lebanese group’s members exploded at once. Witnesses reported seeing smoke emanating from the victims’ pockets, followed by sounds reminiscent of fireworks or gunshots.

Lebanon’s health minister said 200 of the injured were in critical condition. He added that many victims had facial injuries, especially to the eyes. Hand and stomach injuries were also common, according to the health minister. Among those wounded was Mojtaba Amini, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, according to Iranian state media.
The New York Times says Israel’s military declined to comment.
It’s unclear how the perpetrators orchestrated or carried out the attacks. It’s also unknown whether the pagers were tampered with physically or if the attacks were somehow carried out using software. The latter, as far-fetched as it sounds, could lead to widespread panic about the safety of any battery-containing mobile devices. NYT reports some in Lebanon were scared to use their phones after the attacks, with one resident crying out, “Please hang up, hang up!” to their caller.
The Times reports that Hezbollah, long suspicious of cellphone use near the Israeli border due to the devices’ geolocation capabilities, recently switched from mobile phones to pagers. In February, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah reportedly warned the group that their phones were dangerous and could be used by Israel as spy tools. He advised the group that they should “break or bury them.”
Experts reportedly don’t yet know precisely how the pagers were distributed to Hezbollah’s members. They say that Iran, given its history of supplying Hezbollah with arms, tech and other military aid, would have been pivotal to their adoption and delivery.

I stumbled into #AI and enjoy enabling others with consulting and projects but I have a love/hate relationship with it. It's fun, but feels soul-less... so I try to put a little bit of mine into the projects I create.

As a former finance professional, I was a very late adopter to Bitcoin. Started dabbling in 2017 but then my friend Tai Zen was encouraging me to look into it in 2013 and I scoffed "that's never going to be money or a currency brah, because reasons"

But when he came back to me in 2020 and said it's game time I started to listen, read, watch and drink from the firehose.

My finance experience actually worked for me b/c I saw the bullshit happening and Bitcoin clicked a lot quicker.

Of course I was Bitcoin AND shit coin for the last bull market and learned a VERY hard lesson. Ouch. Sold the Shit, Kept the Bit...

And kept adding to it.

I'm constantly amazed at how addicted I am to Bitcoin news, narrative and nuance. I'm all in, maxi style and you'd think I'd say "I know enough, next topic" but it's crazy how this doesn't get old and you keep finding nooks and crannies of info to devour.

I appreciate the hell out of every Bitcoiner out there who is creating great financial content to encourage no coiners and reinforce Bitcoiners. Much love to you.

I just loaded my wallet and plan to try zapping a few people and get the most out of Nostr - but I'm still learning and would love any insights y'all have.

Great listen from these terrific builders. I still think we are missing the key tipping point that will alter the destiny of world networks towards nostr. We need to monetize events. Tiny millisats of ecash moving between users, relays, dvms, and clients. This will allow us to create an open hardware layer with push button launch that will allow anyone (or bots) to launch new relays, web client hosts, dvms, blossom hosts. This will create a massive economy that will rival nations and be fundamentally unstoppable. This will drive bitcoin NGU and will increase the flow of zaps through Nostr to creators and developers.

Early days but nostr needs to lean into the monetization theme or centralization takeover is inevitable.

nostr is still mainly used alongside twitter. in the best rare case, as a replacement. and only because people are running away from something about twitter they don't like.

there is nothing that people want to run to nostr for yet. zaps were promising, but bitcoin is still a hurdle (one that primal is doing the best at overcoming), and it's doubtful lightning could scale to a massive adoption moment.

nostr needs a feature or experience that's unique and sets it apart. i *think* that is the ecosystem of microapps over the long term...but it's definitely not in the short term. and that might be ok.

for twitter the initial draw was the simplicity and weirdness of 140 characters (we started with zero network effect, facebook had it all...that's built over time). later it became the conversation which lead to the "public square" (owned by a private corporation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). and then as it grew, it had a single point of control/failure people could attack.

nostr doesn't have to worry about that last bit. it's an incredible feature. but not one the average person cares about (no matter how much they yell "FREE SPEECH!"...if people actually cared about free speech, bitcoin and nostr would be all they used...they don't).

all this to say, we're not doomed. but what we think is the killer feature isn't right now. who's going to discover the one that is?

I like and have paid for image hosting services for nostr, but I expect >98% of your expenses are tied to free tier business with people who will never pay. In a way, you will always be your own biggest competitor.

I appreciate that jack and many have gone into their pockets to bootstrap nostr. I have poured in about 550€ on my small relay. But, if we don't build decentralized profitable micro services into the system we will just get the same centralized outcomes when the generosity runs dry. If nostr survives and thrives as a protocol, then a microservice economy of image hosting dvms will likely replace centralized hosting services.
