I started doing https://neal.fun/absurd-trolley-problems/ for a laugh, but something like the fourth or fifth problem asked me to choose between my life savings and 5 strangers' lives.

After you do each problem it tells you how many people have pulled/not pulled the lever. I pulled the lever, obviously. Well, I thought it was obvious.

I would say there's a very important difference between social relationships facilitated by technology and social relationships mediated by technology. Only in the latter case does the technology get in the way of our need to connect with one another.

The obvious example to give here is the feed on Xitter vs the feed on Mastodon. Very similar presentation of superficially similar things with very different goals and motivations - leading to very different outcomes.

Where I live, #Labour won, with more votes than everyone else put together. And then the #Greens came second, with more than everyone except Labour put together.

So, could be worse I suppose, at least it's not in much danger of going to Farage's fash at the next election... but I don't know what Labour would have to do for people around here to realise they're a hard-right party who hate poor people these days, and want to sell off the #NHS to private healthcare companies.

I've got bulbs from several manufacturers, and over time I'm getting rid of all the other brands because they're a pain in the arse.

Rising cost of everything combined with pay not even tracking inflation for the last few decades will tend to cause an ever-increasing number of young (and not so young) people to ask themselves what the point is really, in staying alive and working hard just to be kicked in the teeth regularly - just because it makes for good soundbite politics, it seems sometimes.

I've lost 5 friends younger than me in the last few years, 4 of them to suicide, the other to NHS delays. I don't expect either number to stop there unless our government's policies start changing, dramatically and soon.
