My primary criticism of anime as a medium at this point is that it seems to contextualize all of life and philosophy through the lens of young girls in highschool. It really, genuinely feels like every Japanese person had their life end brutally as soon as they graduated and they don't want to think about anything except going back to highschool and having friends. Anime as a medium is also insanely overtly sexual and creepy for reasons that I am forced to apply to the Japanese people. It's literally "just dey kultcha" to obsess over 13 year old girls panties.

Edit: and to belabor the "it's always in highschool english class" point, it's not just that, it's that it's always girls. Girls who don't act like girls. Everyone knows what a teenage girl is, what they are interested in, and how they behave. It's not like in anime. Anime girls are just autistic japanese men morphed into a teen girl. It's inherently uncanny and weird. I don't like it. It gives me the ick.

Like genuinely is there actually an anime that people consider a masterpiece that has no underage characters and no creepy sex shit? The most famous animes I can name is shit like Evangalion where the boring kid skeets on his sister while she's knocked out or something. Even the movies I would admit to liking, like Studio Ghibli, are all about underage girls and have weird panty shots. Grave of the Fireflies decides to show illness by having the little girl get a UTI that manifests in frequent on-screen urination.
