I finished up my voluntary job at the playcentre today. Three years ago I answered an ad for a gardener. The gardens were bare and drab and dying.

It was a new experience, working in an institutional garden which needed to be child safe, and tough enough to cope with tiny foot traffic.

We got some grants, and built it up. A birdbath. A veggie garden. A hose which reached all the way around the garden.

I banished the free range chooks behind a fence when they dug up the seedlings.

Tiny tubestock native plants grew bigger.

The staff learned some things.

It is mostly just in need of maintenance now, and i am ready for more challenges.
