I had the privilege of attending a Bible study led by Abp. Dmitri of Dallas for several months in 1999 while I was on the journey from Calvinist-Evangelical Christianity to exploring historic Christianity. Abp. Dmitri was going through Romans and showed me another way to interpret it, which opened my mind to a world beyond Protestantism. As he preached his homily, questions would come to my mind, and then he would appear to answer my question with his next sentence. It was as if we were having a conversation. I feel like some Catholic apologists make it sound like Tradition and the Magisterium answers all of the questions, removes all ambiguities, and settles all disagreements. There are still hard problems in Catholic theology, areas of disagreement, and mysteries that will likely never be understood in this life. Nonetheless, I have found the difference between Protestant theology and Catholic theology to be night and day. <br/><br/>I didn&#39;t get here by listening to Catholic apologists, though. I started by looking into ancient Christianity, then trying to merge modern Protestant and Patristic Christianity, all along learning more about how Catholic beliefs were not what I had been taught as a Protestant. We had a non-sectarian prayer at the beginning of each day in the public school. School shootings were unthinkable even though guns were very common in Texas. By the time I was in high school, 1977-1981, things had become much different. In my public high school, one band director was fired for sexual misconduct with a student, and the college counselor was caught in the act with a boy in the school bathroom, and ended up shooting himself. There were rumors about our principal and one of my history teachers, but nothing was ever proven. Now, responsible parents will not leave their children unsupervised outside their own fenced-in yard, and even Catholic priests are no longer considered safe.<br/><br/>In summary, secularism leads to moral relativism where eventually anything is permissible (e.g. Ivan Karamazov). There are still good people, but the restraints on bad people deteriorate until chaos threatens to overwhelm the good. Bitcoiners blame fiat for the problems of the world, but currency devaluation was considered a serious sin in the Middle Ages, so that moral restraint had to be eliminated before we could have fiat currency. I believe the solution is a widespread revival of faith in God with the realization that He knows what makes for a fulfilling life. On the desktop, I mostly use Primal, but I also use Coracle, Snort, and I just started with Iris. The advantage of Primal is that it uses an aggregation server that draws from all relays that it knows about. There are some people that think that violates the decentralization of Nostr, but Primal has open-sourced their code and they encourage others to set up aggregation servers. They believe in decentralization, but they also believe aggregation improves user experience.<br/><br/>The result is that I see more posts and better statistic on Primal, but their clients are less mature at this point. They are well funded and should quickly get better.<br/><br/>One other thing to be aware of is care of your private key. Pasting it into a web app is considered less secure than a well know, open-source client like Amathyst or Primal. On web apps, I use the Alby browser extension, which has a Bitcoin Lightning wallet and will manage your Nostr keys.
