Unlike 1953, this time the Trump regime and Israel's attempted regime change failed. Bad news for the Iranian people, who have lost whatever chance they had to bring the change they wanted themselves. Iran's regime though would be missing an opportunity not to tie any future negotiation about its nuclear program to Israel's. Israel was, after all, directly involved in this pathetic attempt, and very likely committed far graver crimes against humanity than the current regime, or the Shah's, as hard as it might seem to imagine.

The term “AI” is overly broad and carries connotations that misrepresent the nature of current systems. “AI” implies a level of intelligence or consciousness that these technologies lack, as they are fundamentally statistical models trained on data rather than systems with true understanding or intent.

#MAGA, of course, has the same problem with the concept of “intelligence” and “facts.” Like the AI industry, they normalized wrongdoing, made it constant and loud until pushback felt tedious. The AI industry normalized theft (models trained on pirated books, scraped web content, unlicensed creative work), and is conditioning people to accept plausibility over facts. Both assumed correctly that scale creates its own dynamic and provides immunity. The consequences of both are tragic.

Two problems here. If right-wing bots are manipulating the comments section, Ynet moderators should block them, but the bigger issue is that this is incitement and hate speech. As someone who comments there regularly, I can confirm: any comment that challenges Israel or the IDF, or draws comparisons to Nazism, gets blocked and removed. They can and do moderate, albeit with a strong preference for incitement against Palestinians. This kind of content is allowed to stand, even when flagged for hate speech.

It’s not just about messy code, is it? #AI generates illusion of progress. Speed is prioritized over comprehension so "going fast" and doing more becomes a trap. The hype isn’t rooted in technical achievement of the type claimed. It’s not artificial intelligence, I think we can all agree that’s self serving corporate narrative. And even though these tools have their place and are useful, the very hype is pushing decision-makers to replace humans across entire domains. This is catastrophic beyond cognitive debt in a crappy pile of code. It’s unchecked surrender of understanding, control, and the ability to reason about everything possibly. Oh wait. Isn’t this exactly what the nerd reich wants? I think we should tone down the fanboyism and always remind ourselves the hidden and self evident costs of this technology. I didn’t read the Financial Times piece and I am not a fan of Harari. Historian Yossef Rapoport analyzed the Hebrew text published in Haaretz in November 2025 (which appears to be a translation of the Financial Times piece, paywalled so can’t verify).

Rapoport basically says Harari’s “let’s have honest dialogue” piece is fatally flawed because it ignores the five things that actually matter: Palestinian Arabic-speaking cultural continuity stretching back a thousand years, Jerusalem’s religious centrality that makes separation impossible, the British colonial backing that created Israel (Balfour Declaration/settler colonialism), the Nakba’s systematic destruction of 1948, and the fact that over 5 million Palestinians are denied citizenship simply for not being Jewish. He presents a “both sides tell themselves lies” false equivalence that erases the actual colonial power dynamics - he’s asking Israelis to be “generous” to Palestinians instead of recognizing Palestinian rights as inherent, not dependent on Israeli goodwill. To write about Palestinian-Israeli history while leaving out the Arabic language, settler colonialism, and the #Nakba is either willful blindness or a failure so severe it disqualifies the whole project. Equality has to come first, and you can’t build “shared understanding” on top of ongoing domination and erasure.

[…] Harari falls into the colonial trap from which he tried to wean himself, and tries to convince Israelis to show generosity toward Palestinians and give them part of the land. But the Palestinians’ right to a state, or to integration into one state as equal citizens, does not depend on the goodwill of Israelis. In the 21st century, unlike the Middle Ages, this is a universal and natural right of every human being.

[…] And after equality, which should be self-evident, there will be a role for Palestinian and Israeli historians to conduct dialogue about the past, and to establish a shared foundation that will include the different communities that lived in this land—a shared vision of the past that will be necessary for a future of reconciliation. Harari is not wrong that historians have a special responsibility, and it is no accident that historians like Lee Mordechai and Liat Kozma are among the bravest of Israeli opponents of the war of extermination in Gaza. History will judge them kindly.

Also, violence against women surged.

That photo had “propaganda value” indeed, but for another reason. It represented the fact that women’s real participation was substantial. The reality is that the US invasion didn’t “free Iraqi women” from objectification (it wiped out decades of progress and replaced secular rights with religious patriarchal control). It erased decades of progress the same way the 1953 UK/US intervention in #Iran killed a budding democracy.

Couldn’t agree more. Amateur developers love AI because they get “working” code quickly but can’t see hidden bugs, security issues, or quality problems due to lack of experience. Worse, their learning is stalled because they rely on AI instead of studying documentation and understanding technology. Which also means they can’t spot or fix bugs. This is a disaster waiting to happen because companies are already blindly integrating AI without realizing future problems. On the other hand, lazy but experienced developers love AI as a time-saver and CAN fix the mistakes AI makes. Artisan programmers don’t like AI because it produces slop code and the time spent fixing it exceeds doing it right from the start.

About the use of the term “hallucinations” with AI, anthropomorphic language like “hallucination,” “thinking,” “learning,” and claiming systems have “perceptions” is part of the AI hype machine that misleads people about what these systems actually are and do.
