I think one of the most important features of github is the "star" count on a repo. Combined with the last commit date, I can tell in a quick glance if a piece of software is actually maintained or if I'll be SOL if there's a bug. There's probably a way to replicate just that part with nostr and then it wouldn't matter where the code is hosted

Is anybody aware of a nostr client that doesn’t connect your phone to multiple relays but instead connects to a server (preferably self hostable) which maintains connections to your desired relays and caches the notes you are interested in. I think this would be faster and save battery life. I thought about trying to implement this as a modified relay but the problem is that if you remove all but one relay in an existing client I’m pretty sure the client will broadcast those changes to your relay list. So I would have to use a modified client and relay

This might not be the case if you have a large social media presence and can get eyes on your work and people to promote you. Most developers don’t have this. This isn't really a payment proof, there is no real way to prove that the invoice is real or has been paid. You are trusting the author of the zap receipt for the legitimacy of the payment.

The way zaps works is when you send a lightning payment to the server there is a nostr bot account on that server that publishes a zap receipt event that says how much was zapped. Nothing is stopping that server from saying there was a zap that actually didn’t happen or lying about the amount.

Security recommendations to not run containers as root are outdated now that it’s relatively easy to run the docker daemon in rootless mode. Always being root is one of the great joys of containerization and partly what gives it its development efficiency. Security people please don’t take that away from developers.

There might be some objective way to perfectly describe physical reality but I suspect that it would be completely incomprehensible to humans. That theoretical description might exist in the same way as a rock but that’s not what math is. That description would likely not resemble math at all
