It could not, because Signal itself is unable to read the encrypted message content. The definitive proof of this is in the Signal source code. I, too, have used my real name on the Internet for most of Internet's existence. I haven't been very worried about what I say under my name, because I'm a white man with little worry about my privilege.

But one of those privileges has been a lot of experience working on pseudonymous communities. I know (second hand) how important it is to be online without exposing your entire identity.

It's also curious how they now have authenticity verification as DNS links, "decentralized" verification labels, and a self-operated verification, and fail to apply those consistently, too.

For alternative: fediverse. And on protocol: Bluesky is so dominant, it effectively is the protocol.

1. It bridges public posts and replies made to other bridged accounts. "Quiet" posts are not bridged.
2. You're not on Bluesky but visible to Bluesky. Bridgy is the second largest ATproto server after Bsky.
3. Deletes are bridged too, but edits not, because ATP doesn't understand edits.

I'd like to suggest here that a certain amount of porosity is a tool. If I'm opted in, that means I want to be bridged, but also that I want to see interaction to what of my posts is bridged.
If I'm not opted in, but do interact with a bridged post, the previous means a social contract should be held and I shouldn't be surprised it is held. It doesn't mean my *other* posts should be bridged. But any like, boost, reply to a bridged post? Yes.
