Just in the past day or so I’ve seen reports that the data centers are lying by vastly under-reporting water usage (go figure) and other stories of having to cut power to communities due to high demand. No word if power was cut to the communities to make sure data centers stay running. But I can do the math. And if that isn’t happening yet you can be sure it will.

I’ve been impressed with Rufus. I’ve used it to update or install Win11 on a lot of unsupported computers and it worked like a charm. Speaking of keeping an old Windows computer around, I recently used Virtual Box to make a .VDI image of my Windows drive. Now when I need something from that old setup I can just start a VM.

Fortunately, they had an old Chromebook that was still logged in so I was able to assign new recovery options. Unfortunately, Google continues to use the landline even though I deleted it. Logon attempts state that it will continue to use the old number but I really had to dig to find out for how long (about a week). I assume it will then offer to let me use the new recovery options. I suppose this is for security.

That worked fine when the account was set up because you could receive a voice call that announced the code. Now they only support getting the code via text messages which do not work on landlines. This lockout is 100% Google's fault.
