In today's round of fun*, a contractor was working on some new fiber runs down the alleyway from my house and cut some things they shouldn't have. ISP came out immediately and checked on it, realized what happened, and is getting the contractor back to fix what they broke yet today.

Thanks to multiple internet connections and automatic failover, it took me a while to even notice it was down.

The pink cart reacts to one of my UV lights even through the bag and cartridge itself, so that's promising!

I've used the washable blue (my main ink for 30+ years), black, and red Parker Quink cartridges before. But I haven't ever tried the purple, pink, or turquoise. I'm eager to give those a shot!

I'm tempted to pop the cartridges, swatch, and then syringe the ink into other pens/converters. No time today, though.

Had a couple pens that were nearly empty and in want of a refill or ink change. Not dried out (yay)

The Decimo is one I use almost daily and I refilled it as-is. The C74 I flushed really well but still re-filled with the same ink. The Asvines got a cleaning and ink change.

I always keep a red, orange, and green handy at my work desk for note annotations and marks. Not highlighting, but reminders of things that are good/on hold/bad and so on.

They are really nice photopolymer stamps! Granted I haven't used a lot of them, but they feel nice, stick well to the blocks, transfer well, etc. Clean up with soap and water and a light toothbrush scrub and all the ink traces are gone.

So far all the ones I have tried fit on col-o-ring cards and the Midori ones I make. I saw the mini ones but I was afraid they'd be too small for what I wanted to do.

I got these bottle-shaped stamps to make ink swatch cards. The shop didn't label them (likely for copyright/trademark reasons), so it's a bit of a guessing game for ones I don't recognize. Problem is I can't recall why I bought the sheet labeled "D" as I have none of those inks, but maybe I got it because they also work as good generic bottles?

I tried labeling the ones I recognize or found searching. Anyone know the "?" ones I couldn't definitively ID?

- I really like the format, it's pretty flexible and has plenty of room for me.

- The paper is on the absorbent side, so large/wet nibs should be used sparingly. When a lot of ink goes down it ghosts a bit and a couple times it bled through in spots.

- Colors show well, but I didn't try any inks that sheen much to see anything like that. Little to no shading.

- The Pilot CM nibs and the Parker FI work great here, nice variation without being too wet.

I proceeded to ignore the overwhelming amount of people who thought I should start fresh in the new log book and carried over all my entries for the year from my old A7 notebook to the new A5 Sunny Log Note book.

On a related note, the two transparent Jinhao 20 pens are still doing OK.

The gold trim one has been nearly as good as the black one. Zero hard starts, just keeps writing, I can leave it sit for days and it writes instantly.

The silver trim one hard starts if I let it sit a few days but some scribbling gets it going.

Not nearly as bad as my older Jinhao 10 pens which could barely make it a two days without practically needing life support (wet paper towel or water run over the nib)

I like the separation this shelf provides, just the depth is tricky. So far I haven't found any pre-made bins that would fit perfectly without sacrificing too much space, so I may have to 3D print or craft something.

The bins I've found may work for some stuff (like the stamping bits), but not for the Diamine boxes that fit almost perfectly side by side. I need something with thin, perfectly straight walls. Most bins I'm finding are tapered and/or thick acrylic.

Put out the trash last night because I had no idea how long I'd sleep in and sometimes the trash collector crew rolls by early after holidays.

The wind gusts overnight blew the cans over, and some bags and stuff escaped and blew down the road.

FP Secret Santa (green tier) gift arrived today, lots of great stuff! A Faber-Castell Essentio (EF), a Moleskine notebook (lined), a Faber-Castell notebook (grid), and a bunch of new-to-me ink samples. Some from brands or series I haven't tried yet.

Upon initial inspection with the endoscope, neither one showed light leaking in around the trapdoor itself or around the piece containing the trap door. That's a promising sign that they may seal well. I might still put some silicone grease around the trap door for good measure.

The two transparent Jinhao 20 pens I ordered arrived today. Not too fond of the glitter in the plastic, but it's not overdone or distracting. It was in the listing, so not unexpected. I didn't notice the "gold" trim one had a gold tinted nib, though, that's a nice touch. I have a 10 with gold trim and it had a silver nib.

I immediately swapped in Majohn A1 converters so I can actually see the ink level at last.

Still pondering which inks to fill them with.

The A1 converter is ever so slightly shorter (like maybe 0.1-0.2mm) but it has a longer piston travel distance. And even though it has a metal shield over the end, the piston retracts farther so you can see the ink level.

Honestly, I thought I would hate the Wi-Fi feature on my LG Washer/Dryer and would disconnect it, but the notifications are the most useful thing. Even in my small house it's easy to miss the chime when it's done, and having it buzz my phone/watch when it's done means it doesn't sit wet until my brain kicks in "oh, I should check on that...".

Now that I've posted them all, here's a side-by-side of the Tono + Lims Star Light series fluorescent inks.

There are more non-fluorescent inks in the series (one for each Astrological sign, IIRC) but those didn't interest me as much. Unless they put out more fluorescent ones this may be enough for me for now.

I liked all of these for different reasons, no bad one in the bunch. They are all very usable and glow brightly, which is exactly what I was looking for.

For Swatch Wednesday this week, another instant favorite: Akkerman #13 Simplisties Violet. (I misspelled it again, oops)

This is closer to what I think of when "purple" comes to mind. More grape-ish and trending toward indigo. Yama-budo is hard to beat, but that's more magenta. Both great in different ways.

The gold sheen on this is subtle, clinging mostly to the outlines of letters. Looks especially nice on Iroful.

Cobalt Blue Asvine C80 w/Stub nib I ordered back in June(!) finally arrived today. No time to ink it up yet, but it looks nice. I like the color mix on this, mostly dark blue with a little black and some light blue shimmer here and there. Not too much.

No inner cap or o-rings so I don't have high hopes for it sealing well, but maybe I can at least pop an o-ring on there.

These showed up early. They are the other two things that mysteriously found their way into my cart. The TWSBI Diamond 580ALR (Nickel, Stub) is what I was after originally but was out of stock. The VP (Gun Metal Matte Black, EF) is an upgrade from a Majohn A2 I keep near me and use regularly.

The matte finish on the clip/tip is nice, as is the black-tinted nib.

Being neutral colors I also feel less compelled to be matchy-matchy with ink.

The last time I had a weird issue like that it was a stale .Xauthority file in my home dir but I don't think I've ever seen that happen on upgrade.

I only use KDE on FreeBSD and raspbian with single monitors so no real insight there.

I haven't seen anything like that on Mint with Cinnamon, though.

Is it Xorg or Wayland? What login manager are you using?

Bambu, Creality, and many others are made in China so depending on whatever exceptions happen they may or may not be subject to things. It's hard to keep track.

I love mine! I've been churning out prints like mad and the few fails I've had were mostly my own fault. See my post over the weekend about the nozzle I ruined by cleaning it wrong.

It's been amazing just slicing and printing with minimal concern about crap like leveling/adhesion/etc.

I did have to re-tension the belts a little because it had occasional issues homing but otherwise nothing too noteworthy.

Some minor gripes were already fixed in firmware updates.

At least they were nearly shipping when you ordered yours. I ...

Last I saw, tariffs were charged based on when it entered the country not when it shipped but the way stuff is changing I have no idea what they're doing now.

The usual rate was something like 3.1% and now I think it is +10% so 13.1% so it might be closer to $200 but then again the new rate may be paused. Shrug indeed. Could be $50, could be $175.

I had to fill out more paperwork importing two $20 bottles of ink from India (complete with chemical declarations I had little clue about!) and those didn't even have any tariffs. That was much more of a PITA, but they called me on the phone for that and sent me the forms. That was an odd one.

If you want to avoid some of that you can buy Prusa things from PrintedSolid in the US but they charge more and take longer.

It's less FedEx and more the US Government wanting to track ...

I read from some reports DHL was asking for an SSN via insecure means (SMS or e-mail, something odd like that) which was another reason I avoided them.

FedEx didn't ask me for anything before this came in, just dropped it off then sent me the bill later, but that might have been because they already had some info.

Anything coming from outside the US that's over $800 has had tariffs in most cases.

Mine was: Customs Duty: $38.63 Disbursement Fee: $14 Total: $52.63
(The $14 was the extra from FedEx)

I had an account with FedEx for package tracking to my house so they already had most of my info, but not a payment method, so I got a bill in the mail a week after the printer arrived for the import duties. Since the printer was over $800 those were always due, not a new thing. Though the current values are always changing.

FedEx might be doing you a solid by not releasing it until a day when there are magically no (or lower) added tariffs.

I'm not sure what they call it in the EU but in the US we have stuff we can get at the pharmacy which is like a putty that you pack into a cavity as a temporary patch. It hardens after a few minutes and depending on how well it was applied can last a few days. It was a lifesaver last time I was in this situation and the dentist couldn't see me right away.

Though one shop I checked is $3 cheaper than the other ($49.99 vs $52.50) but the usual price for an ECO is closer to $35.

Oh look, another blue TWSBI ECO ("slate blue onyx"). I do like the color (and black nib+accents), but it's also nearly 2x the usual cost of an ECO. So for now it'll sit on a wish list. Gotta save up for Switch 2, eh?

In the right pen it's not all that much of a hassle. Should be one that has a wet flow and is easy to thoroughly clean. You also need to remember to (gently) agitate the pen before you write and occasionally while writing to distribute the shimmer particles to reduce the chance of clogging.
