The day lilies were planted by my landlady well before I moved in. They do their own thing in shady spot on the far side of our building. I'm the only one that sees/enjoys them regularly. I moved some hostas in that area to keep them company 👍.

Started w/ clay fill covered in sparse weeds. Erosion took much of the soil downhill so had to drag ~half the hill up. Added terracing/redirected drainage. Seeded w/ native flowers from my 1st garden & voilà!

Seems like last year, when it first bloomed, it put on full leaves first but this year it only developed a small group of leaves before sending up a flower spike. Guess it just depends on how much energy it can build up in the bulb before its ready 🤷‍♂️

These are actually the same species as before but at a different time of day and sunlight/shade. The flowers stay closed until the the sun comes out and the temps are warmer. They range from white to a pale purple-pink. The other thing I love is that they rise amid last years leaves and are typically the first spring wildflower weeks before the others show up.

Marvelous photo! Gear isn't everything and not sure what you're using but it is incredibly hard to catch such a small bird in flight. I'm using a 200-500mm a a camera with a 45 Mp sensor but even ducks in flight are hard for me.

If I run across a nearby chickadee like this I can easily take over 100 pics🤷‍♂️ and most ain't so great, lol. These moments are are brief so persistence and luck play a big part.

Fox squirrels are the largest tree squirrel native to NA. Much burlier as well if you take a gander at those shoulders and biceps 💪.

Huge range of plumage among the juvenile/immature migrant eagles that visited us this yr. Cool to be able to identify individuals while editing. My guess is a 2-3yr old but it take 4-5yr for adult plumage so its not easy to tell.
