So I read the election files and the main takeaways, aside from a zillion ineligible people registered to vote, are:
- All the PII has probably been breached and
- Voting machines and registration systems have vulns too
So states and counties running election related things (but also the rest of you) should do the following:
- Back up data files regularly
- Audit data integrity and implement alerts
- Test out your backups
- Watch out for phishing, re-used passwords, enable MFA
- Watch out for ransomware, patch, least privilege
- Do network segmentation
and not once was AI mentioned. Honestly kind of impressed.

Someone explain why all the bike water bottles being sold are lousy. Most lids trap an ounce or more in a moat around the valve that some sociopathic engineer designed. You'll be dying for the gulp of water sloshing around in your bottle that you can never drink without unscrewing the lid. Go ahead and ride home alone; the group ride isn't stopping for you.

The local cycling shop has mostly metal bottles. They're heavy. Water drips out. Just why? The plastic ones all have caps you need to manually open and close. C'mon, even ketchup bottles have self-sealing hands-free valves that allow a squirt out when you squeeze. Why can't more water bottles?

I also have an armful of bottles given away for free at various events. None of their lids seal well.

Anyway, the Specialized Purist Fixy's I bought a few weeks ago did everything right and were cheap too... and now they don't make them anymore! Maybe their Omni is OK? I don't know. But if anyone wants to do better, there's a great market of at least tens of dollars to sell to the five of us who care.

So anyway, my 2024 Christmas break project: load in ~1s and graphically see when the cold front hits.
