yeah, i should have used more words, sorry. Go to edt/preferences and it's under Canvas Interaction as Modifiers, because mouse buttons aren't considered keys by the underlying toolkits. It'd be better if we could nify these, but for now, they're in different places. But you can e.g. hold down control-cabbage-banana-shift-mouse-button-17 and click the button to rebind it.

We have Flatpak, AppImage and Snap packages.
And I believe our software is already available in every Linux distribution repositories in other formats (which is distributions' packagers responsibility). 😄

In any case, we are never against new packages if one cares enough to contribute scripts for our CI pipelines, then stay around to maintain these across the years. (packages are not a "patch welcome" only kind of changes; requires bigger involvement and long-term effort).

Update - revision 1 of GIMP 3.0.8

GIMP 3.0.8 can crash on some older processors, usually on startup.

The problem was discovered, and should now be fixed by installing Revision 1 of GIMP 3.0.8.

GIMP 3.0.8 released today.

A new version of the manual, including more translation work; fixes to bugs people have been kind enough to report.

Startup performance improved on many systems; colour profiles on Windows; SVG path import;
some minor UI improvements; security fixes; see link for more.

This might be the final 3.0 release before 3.2.

If you set the move tool (in GIMP 3) to move the active layer, you don't have to click on text pixels exactly. And you don't if you hold down ALT while the text tool is active either, although in that case you only get to preview the rectangle, not the text, as you drag.

I know you’re frustrated, but there isn’t really a good response to your questions.

“intuitive” means “i can predict how it will behave based on my knowledge” but what knowledge do you bring to GIMP?

If it helps - make sure to keep a careful eye on Tool Options as you work. Beyond that, I dont know what you expect that’s different.

there doesn’t have to be a single tool to do everything. Some people prefer MyPaint or Krita for painting over GIMP, some prefer GIMP, some prefer GIMP for photograph, some RawTherapee or Darktable. So you can use a mix of tools and thatś fine.

1/ run with on-canvas preview (including the before/after "curtain");
2/ usable as non-destructive filters;
3/ searchable and callable through action search;
4/ given shortcuts;
5/ and more…

Basically they'd be more integrated into GIMP's standard UI and the ideal workflow, including all the little quality-of-life features of #GEGL filters.
