The LIFE scenario stuck out head and shoulders. Including a dietary shift toward vegetable protein achieved the climate goal for a cost that is 2.6 TeraEuro cheaper than getting there purely through technological means.

Since it's derived from frying oil, it won't have the pollutants that come with fossil oil (or even fossil ethane, now the source of much plastic).

But it will be equally non-biodegradable as conventional plastic so it will likewise hang out with us for hundreds to thousands of years. OTOH if it goes into biodiesel the carbon contributes to planet heating. So it depends very much on what you mean by "eco-friendly".
