You've correctly identified 7ths (one or two semitones down from the tonic, major and minor sevenths respectively) so sixths should be obvious now!

What about ninths? That clearly means add the note two semitones *above* but it normally involves a seventh as well, so C ninth would be C,E,G plus a B flat and a D.

I don't know if this is 100% correct for proper music theory but it's right for guitar and rock music.

I don't even know how to ask this question, but is there something like a decision-path web framework, such that users can get presented with:

Where is the customer located?

a) USA
b) Canada

then click on Canada and see e.g.

Is the customer over 50?

a) yes
b) no

then go to a third page etc.

I"m assuming you could put all the decisions and possible responses and paths into JSON or XML then have the pages and buttons automagically appear.

Some organisations will refer you to something kind of similar when they let you go, a "placement service" which is kind of an employment EAP. They'll brush up your resume, give you interview advice, involve you in Zoom meetings so you can "network" (but really so you don't feel so alone). Mine had a whole "webinar" telling us that the public sector existed!

They don't get involved with your official processes like claiming unemployment, in my experience, and they're really a corporate sop to a company's conscience, but it's something.

The paranoid style in #programming.

I'm downloading a bunch of stuff from an #api — I'm doing it in #perl but I'd do just the same in #python or #php or #nodejs or whatever.

I could just do a foreach on about 1,000 urls, bang bang bang but here's what I do instead:

• set the user agent to recent Chrome to disguise the fact that I'm using a requests library in case their back end doesn't like me
• set the delay between requests to, not just a few seconds, but a *random* few seconds in case their firewall doesn't like me
• don't dump the response into a database as soon as I get it, I save it to disk as a .json file because, that's quicker and who knows when the API might quit on me or the db have some issue?

Is this just a symptom of my unhappy childhood or does anyone else code this way?
