I’ve beaten the original campaign many times in my youth, and a few times in adulthood.<br/><br/>Just as I thought, everything came back to me pretty fast and I had no trouble killing Covenant on “Heroic” difficulty (plasma pistol + magnum or assault rifle is just too good). So much so that I beat the par time for the first level on first try.<br/><br/>Something I noticed, I did try the “Anniversary” graphics, and while Keyes, Cortana, the Chief, etc, all look good while stationary, when they actually move they look off. Especially in cutscenes.<br/><br/>These cutscenes were originally designed with the limitations of what they could do with the “BLAM!” engine in 2001. Pasting over higher resolution textured, higher polygon models onto those animations, even though there are some tweaks, looks bad.<br/><br/>Little things that are harder to notice on lower detail like mouths open longer than you think they ought to be show up, Keyes makes weird gestures that don’t seem to fit. They’re stiff, like they’re meant for a lower poly model - which they largely are.<br/><br/>It would have caused even more butthurt, but they should have just redone the cutscenes entirely with new animations for the Anniversary graphics. I never gave the Anniversary graphics a chance for Halo 1, and then I did, and I am disappointed.<br/><br/>I remember that the Halo 2 Anniversary has entirely redone cutscenes, but the other issue with both H1 and H2 Anniversary Editions is that the new graphics do not capture the original “feel” that old Bungie intended.
