It seems there was an intentional change (patent concerns) on new installs, and this will impact the upcoming ISOs of 24.04.5 LTS too:

It's a bit of bad satire on my part. I wanted to illustrate how Mozilla talks like its approach to pushing AI features is materially different to everyone else's, as though it's not sticking its head in the sand on the 'consequences' it entails – like the rest of the providers. They all think they're "doing it right" too. The result is it 'farting' out the same guff they do (the plume is the Firefox tail, which is getting an AI mode this year).

It's currently a pragmatic, overnight reality: the update may install itself, and UK users – where it's far more common to not have ever owned a credit card – can't use valid ID to prove their age.

The PSA is not, as the follow up reply notes, a grumble on "why" age verification is now required to use Reddit or stream tv shows with swearing in on my iPad, simply a heads-up that… without the items mentioned, you can't.

- you DON'T have a driving license

This update adds mandatory OS-level age verification to comply with UK law and, currently, Apple doesn't accept other forms of ID (like a passport).

It's frustrating, and not because I lub weddit personally (I don't use it often) or want traffic/cloud, because the 'reason' for the ban is inconsistent.

Putting aside the literal 'blogspam' that gets posted that no mod bats an eyelid over, the fact is scraper sites can share my posts *verbatim*, still containing my watermarked graphics, and no-one is saying "oh, this is garbage" - instead everyone discusses the news/content.

No site/person has done more to champion and report on gaming on Linux than GoL/you. We've both been around since ~2009 - long before Steam for Linux was a thing.

OMG! is banned for being “pure blogspam garbage” (official reason) but tons of SEO farms, ragebait merchants, and scrapers (of my content) get a pass so… Idk.

Rules aren't applied fairly or consistently. It's more high‑school-style favourites than objective moderation.

Soooo… This take on our logo was semi-designed as a joke initially. We'd had a decade using a horizontal typeface logo, and I wanted to move back to something closer to our "iconic" speech bubble logo. I got stuck making it work for 2024 and goofed around sharing some "if omg was…" riffs on famous logos (MTV, adult tube, etc).

When I did Popcrave… people said "that works", so I iterated on it. Always used a lurid satsuma colour scheme tho 🍊
